at first I didn't get why the author was focusing on this "couple," but now I see how the author is showing the other ways that Yuki's death impacted people and it's so raw and powerful. gotta give it to the author for being able to come up with this and execute telling the story well. Hiiragi not realizing any of this while Shizu is there watching and knowing everything. The meaning all of them give to Yuki's life. I'm blown away

Khaol can still serve a purpose in this (getting rid of Lari and just making gods have an easier time w/o hierarchy and looking down on humans), but I think that being the main love interest isn't his purpose anymore.
