The art is undeniably gorgeous but reading this was like opening a can of pop, drinking half of it, letting it sit out in the open for a few hours, and then finishing it but the carbonation is gone and it's flat. It wasn't bad, but that last chapter didn't fit right to me. Instead of the mc reassuring Michiru that he values him as a person and a partner, he waited until right before flying out to give him a ticket and had a cliche line about "let's make art together." Imma wait for the extras and stuff before making a final verdict
the translator put so much time and effort into finishing out the manga for everyone else's enjoyment even though they stopped caring for it, so yeah I think them adding in their own commentary is justified. Other translators do it all the time. the only difference is that these are more negative (but still humorous)
I'm tired of people saying that Ueno should leave Mafuyu. I think people are seriously ignoring Uenoyama's genuine feelings of liking Mafuyu. People can say all they want about Ueno leaving Mafuyu for someone "better" or Mafuyu not deserving Ueno, but at the end of the day Uenoyama seriously likes Mafuyu. He's not sticking around out of pity or hoping for some big change; he's sticking around because he likes Mafuyu.
Yes, this. You’re spot on. I think that ‘romantic love’ (i.e. infatuation), which has become a standard in In which to measure relationship strength in many cultures does such disservice to the real, involved emotional maturity of real partnership and love. It takes emotional maturity to love someone. It’s about the discipline to choose to love that person each morning when they’re not maybe the best version of themselves; making choices to support their well-being even when it isn’t sexy. I think you’re right - Ueno deeply cares for Mayfuyu - he’s committed to understanding and supporting him with true empathy. It’s not about sexy; it’s about loving someone for who they are and creating space to safely encourage one another to be your best selves. I hope they keep growing together.
Chapter 32 + that extra really show how complex Yuki is. I think that the trio that made up Yuki's friend group didn't have the capacity to understand Yuki's mental health issues at their age. I mean, look at how they try to describe Yuki to Uenoyama ("fascinating") and how Yuki's own mother didn't recognize it until after his suicide. I really like that the mangaka is willing to touch on how much a mental health issue can impact a person's identity because I think the characters are beginning to mature and understand that.
~spoilers~
I didn't even consider Dobin/Nohae to be a thing but goddamn that kiss was *chef's kiss*
