I get why everyone goes "You just don't like romance" when people complain about love interests in these types of webtoons/manhwa and those people certainly do exist, but I'll say for me it's not the fact he has a love interest, it's the fact that the love interest is Tess.
For one I think the discrepancy between those who read the novel and those who don't somewhat appears due to her future choices and actions that you may or may not agree with. I think that can definitely cloud my expectations of characters and how I view them while reading the webtoon but I think it's also a valid consideration in why people don't like her in the comment section (I will admit to not being caught up to the novel - I left off in volume 7 after things happened).
My second point of why I don't like Tess is that for me she really doesn't have a personality. From the beginning her whole persona seems to be based around Arthur. Sure it's been mentioned she's student council president and does other things but pretty much every single scene she's been in has always consisted of her going after Arthur, thinking about Arthur, or just "Arthur, Arthur, Arthur" and it gets old really fast. It feels like she's obsessive with no other personality traits and in my opinion that's not cute, funny, or healthy at all. As for her actions they almost all come across as rather selfish and spoiled since she always feels the right to hit him when she's upset or pout when something doesn't go her way. While you can expect that of someone who's in their younger years, literally no one is helping this situation at all considering how much they egg this on and give into her demands anyway.
In the end, it's not that I don't like romance, it's that I don't like Tess. I'm more team Lilia if were choosing someone anyway. Whelp, thanks for coming to this Ted talk that I wasn't expecting to write out.(〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
I feel like coming in I should have expected it to be like this, but for all those who are looking to read this for either an action/adventure or "slow life" reincarnation story, I wouldn't recommend this.
The first three chapters have proven this to be a relatively cringe "romance" with a male lead who wants to live his life normally after having a rough past and a narcissistic annoying female who seems to think that whatever she wants to happen is going to happen (and everyone else except ML pretty much gives in immediately so that doesn't help). She's clingy, whiny and pretty much shreds any form of interest I have in this story. If that's your cup of tea, go for it but I'd caution anyone else from reading it.
It's exceptionally frustrating that they won't kill these people because "vIoLeNcE iS bAd". Like these problems could have been easily been solved with violence and gotten the job done a lot faster while avoiding hurting innocent and unrelated people. Instead, they get themselves caught and harmed consistently, only getting away based on dumb luck. It's just time after time of her wasting her talents getting themselves into one stupid situation after the other while the whole thing could have been resolved early on. (The easiest solution would have been to kill the count and is main cronies, then have the king find "evidence" of his wrongdoings before appointing someone who's actually decent)
I actually enjoy a fair share of the plot with this one which is rare on a zombie manhua, considering most of them have the usual trashy troupes and horrible writing that gets chucked in your face.
Most the girls have abilities which is helpful but it still sucks that his group is pretty much all girls, on top of that having IMO some of the worst "good" personalities. While they're not the super annoying bratty type it really makes me angry that literally his #1 rule was listen to me, which none of them ever bother to do. How many times does he need to tell them to leave before they do. All they do is go "but I want to hElP yOu" which always results in them making an even bigger mess and causing more problems for him to solve. Like the dude has saved your lives multiple times and shown accurate judgement to most problems. Stop bothering him and making a mess and do what he tells you for goddamn once
Personally, this was the worst of the bunch. The FL was unlikable (which I'm guessing was intended in the beginning, with the problem being literally nothing in the end made me want to like her anyway), the ML did exactly nothing along with the fact that it felt like their was literally no romantic chemistry between the two.
I was more invested in the blond (the heroine of the third story) or I might have even enjoyed a story about the FL's parents more. It was disappointing for me in comparison to the other two of this series.
His name is Gray Mustard. GRAY MUSTARD. (/TДT)/
Is he some moldy bottle of mustard left in the fridge for 40 years?! The parents who named this kid are nuts. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
