Sougen and Jin are honestly one of the most wholesome couples I’ve read. I almost lost it when they got married, and still can’t help smiling every time one of them refers to the other as their husband! It would’ve been very easy for them to have an unequal power dynamic given Sougen’s ability to seal and exorcise monsters and Jin’s devotion to him, but instead they had an equal partnership. (Aside from the time Sougen sealed kid!Jin to keep him from outing himself as a monster, but I think we can agree that was for the best.) Their relationship is healthy, with good communication and just the right amount of teasing to fit their character, the story itself is interesting and doesn’t just revolve around romance, and the sex scenes are ~amazing~
All in all a fantastic read that I come back to time and time again and highly recommend to anyone looking for a good series!
This shit right here is why you don’t withhold love from your child when they’re growing up, because they’ll latch on to anyone who shows them even the slightest bit of kindness or affection. If the only form of “love” you know is being beaten for your mistakes, or the only person to hug you or treat you gently is your fucking rapist, you’ve pretty much been set up to fail.
(I’m not excusing the older brother for the rape, just saying that he probably didn’t know how to have a healthy relationship at all.)
The parents really pissed me off. Who makes their 11-year child take care of his useless father because “he’d be lonely by himself?” A child shouldn’t have to be the sole emotional support for a grown man, especially one who should be raising him - that’s a horrible responsibility to lay on them!! He was so lonely and starved for affection that he accepted and even enjoyed a hug from the man who had molested him the day before. It’s fortunate that he found a partner who was willing to change for the better and support him, and I hope he puts himself first for once and moves in with him, and the dad is left to fail alone. (And maybe the mom can stop using her son as a babysitter for her ex-husband. Just a thought)
I wish they’d gone more into the uke’s jealousy over the seme dating other men for money - a job it sounded like he didn’t enjoy and only took because he was desperate - instead of the seme just getting turned on by it and brushing his feelings aside. His coworker said he had to learn to like men, meaning he was essentially a straight guy who fell in love with another man, which would’ve been an awesome plot-point! I’m not judging people at all for working in the sex industry, but he didn’t seem attached to the job and treated the customer as an annoyance, and it would’ve been cool to see him find something he was actually passionate about and develop an identity that wasn’t based on sex. Maybe a “5 years later” chapter where he welcomes the uke home from work with the cliche “dinner, bath, or me?” and ravishes him in the entrance hall and then mentions something good that happened at work while they’re panting on the bed. The same raunchy sex but with no unresolved issues. Just a thought.
Tl;dr Fully utilize the potential for drama, resolve said drama, then have dirty, filthy sex.
You wanna sleep with an old guy for money? Fine. You wanna be in multiple “relationships” at once? Sure. But involving a teenage kid with a still-evolving view of how love works? Fuck you. That bitch was an adult taking advantage of a kid she knew had feelings for her while still milking his father. I’m glad Najima got a happy ending and was able to move on, but I also kinda wanted to see him edit her “letter” with a red Sharpie and mail it back to her with a note saying she should find a tutor. (Y’know, since she was such a shit one.) He seems to have been failed by the adults in his life, and it’s a shame that one of them was set up for him as an idol instead of an opportunist who knew how to smile and string a sentence together.
I loved the relationship between Hayato and Ryou and the story leading up to it! It was heartbreaking to watch Hayato pining all those years, and then really sweet to see them get together!
On the other hand, the whole continuous drama with Kento and Take and the sex friend had me rolling my eyes and I had to scroll past them. (And then Kento’s gonna lecture Hayato about relationships? Fuck off) I was just too annoyed to get into them as a couple.
Like, he was a complete dick but at least he was straightforward and consistent, and he caused Koizumi a hell of a lot less pain than Ueda. Ueda may have had bad experiences in the past, but that doesn’t justify his complete lack of communication. He made major decisions about their relationship without consulting Koizumi and jerked him around emotionally. He didn’t become determined to make everything work until it looked like Koizumi was moving on with someone else. It seems likely that this situation will repeat itself in the future.
There are plenty of stories where Maki is the dark seme who wards off a weak-willed rival and sweeps the MC off their feet, and I’m not sure which ending I’d have preferred here.
Really want more of the last story! It sounds like the recipient of the letters knew the identity of the author for a little while because of the handwriting, and I’d be interested in seeing the events from his perspective. We don’t get a lot of insight into his feelings and I’m trash for mutual pining! XD
