BC she literally can't say "no" because that could be seen as "she's refusing to do her job" and she doesn't know what would happen to her if she refuses. In her head, she's probably like, 'if I refuse, will his kindness go away?'
And IDGAF if she says it's okay. No, nO girl. She's experiencing 'kindness'(i.e. basic human rights) for the first time after a long time and she's like is this love? NO GIRL, bro tells you that you can't leave him bc you 'belong to him' like every damn chapter. It's giving POSSESSION of an object-- NOT woman I love vibes.
BUT I'm a stupid fucker for these tropes, so I am still really curious to see where it'll go. Which is why idk how to feel. Thoughts anyone?
I mean look at the period of time.. it's not modern world maybe between 80s or I don't know old time world war 1. Of course slavery still exist that time (￣∇￣")
WW1 was four years, spanning from 1914 to 1918, and slavery would have 'ended' in most places(I put ended in quotations bc nah, some ppl back then were still doing it even if it had a 'different name').
But you are 100% right, in that this is a complete and different time period. I'd guess maybe mid to late 1800's to no farther than the when WW1 ended, only bc of the clothing-- when Japan started wearing western fashion, so early westernization(ish).
And I know I'm applying modern standards to a historical/fantasy romance, but at the same time idk... I suppose I just felt that I've seen this trope done better and more tastefully in other works.
