...Y'all are pleading, hoping they end up together, but I do not...
I have stepped back and viewed the relationship from different angles and I just don't see them together cause I believe people cannot realistically come back from what HE (HEINER) PUT HER THROUGH..
Don't get me wrong, I do believe in forgiveness and all but I also believe in separation. Annette is right where she belongs, in the perfect small town by the sea and her cute little cottage core home... thriving ..
Imagine if she lives by herself and meets someone new... no baggage, no trauma buddy bond.. just a man meeting a woman and dating... simple..
Heiner can remain in the capital and command the Nation as he has been doing...
They both forgive and forget and live their lives independently

i don't think the author tried making him "likable" or anything, i think the author wrote him as a bad person who's trying to change. i also think FL shouldn't go back to ML, but i feel like the message of the story was more about how corruption and classism among the nobility and how that leads to cruelty and war. the author didn't romanticize anything and wrote the characters as they are. he was scarred and extremely traumatized, and he pushed his traumas onto FL. the author didn't try to make him sympathetic, the author only wrote about his selfish reasons. at the end of the day, i don't think the writer actually tried to write him off as a good person, but more so as someone who is trying to change and believe in love.

I would have agreed wholeheartedly with you, but the main reason I do not like the Author is what she did to Annette.
She made Annette feel guilty for what happened to Heiner, made her feel like she did not care about him at all or at least enough to ask about his past. Made everyone she met on her healing journey make feel guilty about not caring enough about her abuser to ask about his miserable life...
WHILE conveniently forgot that she wrote Annette in a jewelled prison in the capital. She was HIGHLY disrespected by EVERYONE. Her "husband" was her number 1 hater... I bet in the deleted scene, Heiner had orgasms just thinking about how miserable Annette was due to his machinations. This man was a menace to our girl, BUT OBVIOUSLY she is terrible for not asking about his past...
They should NEVER CROSS PATHS again.. Maybe after 20 years, when her wounds actually heal and she has her own family, they could see each other in a vacation spot and dramatically stare into each others eyes nod and go their separate ways

Most readers blame Annette cause as most will say “ she ought to “, “ she would have “… pls do not impose an emotion on Annette that you as a reader feels she lacks and judge her for it… especially if the author did not make it clear…
Sheltered is sheltered, being sheltered does not make you a bad or good person… just highly ignorant/ naive to current affairs…
I will die on the hill that not everyone deserves a second chance and that not every relationship should end in romance… having a trauma bonded non romantic relationship is also good for healing…
Annette did nothing wrong and was mentally brutalized because when the ML went to see her in her gilded cage she smiled at him… like damn!!! She’s in a cage… not aware of outside situation .. what do you expect..
Heiner CONVENIENTLY forgot that it was her perceived innocence that drew his scrappy ass in …then turn around and hates her for it…

idkkk i’m kind of conflicted, cuz to some degree I do think the EXTENT of her ignorance was lowkey harmful. Especially considering who her father was and where her wealth came from, and what measures her family was using to sustain their power (child soldiers, war crimes, etc.)
That’s not say that she wasn’t sheltered but to some degree her ignorance was harmful imo and I think it’s fair to judge it. Not excusing the BS the ML did tho. trifling.

The novel is nuanced, it's not as black and white as "ignorance isn't bad in itself", we're looking at a specific case where her ignorance was on display to the one who suffered the most for it, he himself being pretty much shattered through literal torture and mental anguish, and where the gravity of her ignorance is harmful in itself.
People have trouble wrapping their heads around that it's not just "her ignorance", it's towards the person who suffered. He's suffering and she's unaware, her father being the reason for it.
He fell in love with her, but then he went through what he did and her not knowing became an issue despite his feelings for her. He wanted her to understand how broken he is, but not to know what happened. She noticed something was wrong, but never asked because she was afraid of the answer. He took this as her never caring for him at all.

You’re judging her from your own POV… you as a reader have all the facts from every angle… Annette has her deliberately narrowed perspective in life… she knew nothing. .. she hardly left home. She was taught to be silent and be a “lady”.., so no, she knew nothing , might see something but had no basis for comparison hence he mind will shift away from there…

… I think people straight up confuse dark romance with domestic abuse…
PLUS
I think the problem is all you people that is cheering for Heiner X Annette to get back together really don’t care about her and is more about your fantasies…
You see her as a doll with no sense or emotion, sth that should just shrug off her past 4 years of Hell and learn her lesson then ask Heiner to forgive her for her ignorance then get together and live happily ever after…
But my question is where will they live Happily ever afterwards…,? In the Capital..???
1) the same capital that
a) shunned her after the revolution
b) made fun of her after her miscarriage
c) said she was seeking for attention after her double self elimination trial
2) in the Palace
a) where NO ONE respected her
b) where she was bullied by the workers
c) Heiner’s 2IC. Constantly throws gabs at her
MIND YOU ALL, Heiner heavily encouraged cause you know, she’s naive and must be punished…
Pls you guys should stop, I guess she can forgive him BUT it doesn’t mean they should get back together..
They can both just move on and heal independently… Damn!! And it could still be happily ever after

Honestly, at didn't like Heiner at the beginning. After what he did it was really hard to let it go, but stuff like that being held onto for so long doesn't do any good. Hurt people hurt people and so and so forth. It's an endless cycle. Him hurting Annette by association was wrong let's just get that out of the way. She was ignorant/oblivious to what was going on behind the scenes but I don't blame her for it. Her father was keeping her attention away from the darker parts of his life. Yes there's some guilt but she didn't actively hurt anyone. I don't like that they're getting back together, but it is what it is
... Did she say My dear Heiner???? Like??? she has forgiven and forgotten ALL and have jumped back in love ?????
The author is definitely a romanticist at heart, cause sincerely speaking, this ain't it...
I guess everybody has their own interpretation of the story but she hasn’t forgetted or forgiven everything. She acknowledges the pain he caused her and some wounds may never fully heal but she DOES care about him. They were together for years after all, you can’t just forget everything.
Before the Manhwa started, they were in a loving relationship (3 years if I’m not mistaken), and these memories really hold her. Tbh thats what I like about this manhwa. It’s complex, like really complex. It’s like real people, with real feelings. We don’t just feel and think one feeling, like you can feel multiple emotions and that’s what the author does beautifully. You can feel the love and hate (not so much anymore) that Annet has for Heiner.
