He was a large vessel until the climax where he unleashed all that power to fight those spirits in the underworld. Basically he was born a large empty vessel to hold great powers which he'll unleash when he's ready. Hope that makes sense.

Watched the live adaption and I think I like it more. The start of the manga was rushed(?) But the show gave it some depth. I'll have to hold off until I've read everything but for me, it moght be a rare vcse of an adaption being better.
I agree with, the adaptation make it more senseful, logical and natural and the acting level up the story in a whole different way (▰˘◡˘▰) I won't Say on to a second season
I saw the tranaslator's note about how this is set in 2015 and damn does that make me feel old. I started this when I was Kyoko's age and now I'm Tsuruga Ren's age ㅠㅠ

I... started this the year I graduated from middle school and now I turn 30 in the summer.
I'm literally only just sticking with this for the art because it is honestly beautiful. The story is poor and the character development is severly lacking and there is no way that the two leads should reconcile in anyway.

I don't know why y'all think that every bad character is going to have character development. From chapter 1 SH has been a bad person and no amount of character development can redeem him for what he's done. So, if you thought SH was going to have character development then you're pretty stupid since this isn't that type of BL. Don't say the story is poor just because it isn't fulfilling your expectations or because it isn't your usual "cute yaoi couple" or whatever. This is marked as obsessive, depraved, and rough on lezhin for a reason.
