Also I gotta add, I thought Kaveri was dead but being 'kept around' in the underworld. Now we find out he's not even dead, he's still alive, so I really don't see Kaol falling out of love with him. It's not like they can have an apology/reunion and then Kaveri moves on of the afterworld since he's well alive!
The reason I ship River with Heil instead of Kaol (besides the obvious, like Kaol being so demeaning to River) is because we're 30 chapters in and I've seen no evolution to Kaol's feelings and behaviour. He started off choking his bride and it's not much better at this point. Meanwhile Heil who never did anything outright mean to River still came across as flirty and possibly manipulative, but unlike Kaol he's had progress in the reveal of the good things he'd done and continues to do. And he's barely spent time with River so there's only room for more!
You know it just sorta hit me that for how well educated Seungho is, he's actually really stupid. And lacks self-awareness. "I don't know why I'm so angry", he says. He doesn't understand that it's actually jealousy. He doesn't understand that he's envious that Nakyum reacts positively in a sexual situation with his learned sir but screams no when it's him. He doesn't understand that this bothers him because he wants Nakyum to enjoy being intimate with him. He doesn't understand that he feels this way because he has feelings for Nakyum. Boy just doesn't understand!! My god. #－.－)

This. Some people even have their emotions suppressed so much that they start to lack empathy and everything. It seems more like it was a foreign emotion to him. He's not used to wanting someone that much it seems.
Yes of course, I realise that. What I mean if that he's not emotionally intelligent when it comes to himself. He knows enough about emotions to manipulate Nakyum's feelings for Sir Inhun, to understand Sir Inhun's feelings of inferiority and desire for power. But when it's him, yes he's unused to feeling this way but he can't even identify what he's feeling!
The fact that Kaveri is still 'around' really changes my thoughts about where this story's gona go. Thought it would be about moving on and finding new love, but I felt so bad for River this last chapter, it really seemed like he was in denial. Sure Kaol seems to like him, but not love..and them being intimate didn't change anything about his behaviour. Right now, I'm actually interested in finding out more about Heil. I feel like a redemption story for him involving River would be really awesome. And tbh so far he's threatened to do bad stuff but not actually done anything bad, so I don't dislike him.

This isn't another preachy rape=bad comment, like we aren't all aware that's the case (seriously don't come here to shame people for reading a work of fiction that's actually relevant to the time period). Anyways, I really appreciated that not only did Nakyum not get hard during the sex, but also had problems breathing. It made everything seem so much more real. Nakyum is reaching the lowest lows and soon enough I imagine there will be nowhere to go but up. Also, I don't know if there will be something between him and Seungho or not later on, but if they do have a romantic interaction, Nakyum's clear physical reluctance in this scene will be so important for Seungho to understand that just taking someone against their will won't produce the kind of satisfying ending he's after.
I like your comment and I agree. I don't think artists should shy away from difficult topics or be afraid of depicting twisted relationships as long as it's not done in a glorifying or romatisicing manner (which on the other hand is problematic). Additionally I don't think us, the readers should have to feel guilty about reading it either. All experiences can't be packaged in a lovely and comfortable way and complicated feelings and relationships are often a basis to create multifaceted characters and intricet strories with depth. I rather have a great grim tale than a considerate one thats shallow and boring.

Finally, a character who realises his feelings and doesn't dilly-dally for 50 chapters creating more unnecessary drama. He just confesses! I mean, yes there will still be drama to come, and I do love it in a story, but when it's unnecessary it just drags, you know?
