Why did the duke marry Aria’s mother? Aria’s mother is a commoner and the duke marrying a commoner won’t give any benefit towards him whatsoever except the fact that his social standings will be tarnished for marrying a low class.
If such a noble man were to marry a commoner like her mother at the start, then that would most likely, if not certainly be that he is in love with her but he is actually just some man with the exact same personality as his real daughter.
If I’m missing something about this, please tell me. This really doesn’t add up at all.

I'd also say that with a lower class wife, expecially a commoner, they kinda have to rely on you now for everything, which some people like in a twisted, controlling way. Even so though, a commoner with a child? Ya I think this could have been better explained, I've got like 5 reasons that the author could have used in passing but oh well.
it is a bit confusing but it the duke and aria’s mother made a genuine connection and formed some kind of relationship he has a status to be able to marry her that won’t be increased his status however it won’t be decreased either. along with that the duke is an extremely high status only below the royal family.

If a duke marries a commoner, there would be much more of an uproar. It doesn't matter if you're a duke then because even though there are special classes the power itself could be different.
I guess, he married her really late so no one really cares. He already had a successor that was studying in the academy and is healthy and all the marriage plans for his children were probably already made. He didn't want Aria, she was just an add on, he just wanted her mother by his side, she probably manipulated him into courting her as well because she might be good with her words ;)

Oh I wasn't talking about THAT status XD It's like the social part of nobility. If such a man with high status were to marry a commoner, he would definitely be gossiped about and talked down on. I doubt his actual status in the empire would be affected, but socially it would've. But i agree, this is confusing.
That makes a lot of sense! He's an old single man without Aria's mother beside him so he probably married her just for convenience and the fact that she's good at seducing men.
