The FL is really despicable with what she just did.... She's making this perfect guy suffer just because of her own insecurities and trauma of the past.. so selfish
First of all this "perfect guy" isnt perfect and second relationships are were ppl share everything with one another. You cant call her selfish for telling someone,who she cares about, her trauma about ruining a person's relationship. She has her reasons for acting that way as explained in the chapter.

Wow, he is far from perfect. In the first place, he took advantage of a person who was so drunk, that she was falling over, and passing out, while he was clearly barely tipsy, if that. Basically, he raped the person who was nice to him. Then, he forces her into a relationship with death threats. She clearly wants nothing to do with him, and it's obvious that he knows - after all, he is quick to promise death and misery to her and her loved ones every time she wants to reject him. Yes, sure, he is in love and traumatised, but a simple courtship or even an offer of money/wealth/power is a far better (and obvious) option, than to force her to choose between death and marriage. It's clearly an abusive relationship with a rapist who is spewing death threats, so at this point, faking her own accident to get away from him isn't even a morally bad option.
And that's before we even consider Ripley's side. In the first place, she has a trauma that makes her desperate to not be in this relationship, whether it's abusive or not. Hell, even if she didn't have a trauma, and simply didn't like him, she should have the basic right to reject him. Yet, she lives in constant fear for her safety(from the duke and from the villainess too), while also has a lot of guilt from the trauma. On top of that, until the very end, she was sure that he doesn't really love her. Yes, he told her, but obviously she didn't believe him, and why should she? She has no trust in him, because he didn't even try to build trust between them, and did everything to make her fear him. She only realised his feelings are probably true, after the accident, and even then she questioned if they are true. So, obviously she faked the accident, thinking that he wasn't particularly attached to her.
In short, she acted like that because she didn't think (and didn't really have a reason to think so) that he cared, had a lot of guilt of being in this relationship, and had all the rights and reasons to run from an abusive rapist. Even if the author clearly makes it seem like their night together wasn't morally questionable.

I don't even feel sorry for the Grand Duke because in my opinion even though he has no knowledge of what it is to be a father he remains unforgivable for what he has done in the past and nothing can excuse his past actions. I really hope she won't forgive him even though I know that's most likely what will happen :(((((
