I think Roy favourites that room, because that's where he and Hughes used to secretly slept together (as to why Roy mentally states 'she'd never forgive me' towards Gracia).
When he found that Edward was living there, it was pure coincidence. Roy was there because he had been there before with Hughes after they returned from the war, and the chalk was indicator that he was drawing a transumation circle.
Now this takes place /after/ Hughes dies, the circle was meant to bring Hughes back to life.
Edward realizes this and gets angry, since Roy knows what it would've son to him.
So Edward, realizing he was a rebound, decided to drop their 'relationship'.

I don't think that circle was drawn to bring Hughes back. He said he drew it during the war. The war happened when Winry was a little girl, because her parents were killed then. It was YEARS before Hughes dies, so he'd have no reason to try to bring him back to life. Not sure who Roy wanted to bring back, it implies Hughes, but chronologically, there's just no way.

But does the totem stop spinning?!

I_Read August 18, 2015 5:30 am

People are going off on the father, and as a daughter with mysophobia and OCD tendencies, it's rather difficult for them to understand the root of the issue.
For me, it's weight related. I see calories and trash on everything. I obsessively observe people and what they touch, to see if they washed their hands before touching something else.

When my family started noticing my ocd and phobia, all they could do was accept it, and hope that I myself get treatment (forcing it isn't an option for people with this condition).

The father is doing the best he can as a single father and man with needs. All he can do is hope to help his son, as much as he can, while also being human himself.

Not to forget, Shirotani would never admit to the source of his phobia and OCD, since it is rather twisted.

    helix August 18, 2015 8:27 am

I wouldn't completely agree with you, but you've got a point here, I guess (since you know how it works). In this case Shirotani's change of attitude was due to the trauma, so it was rather sudden. But let's say the father couldn't notice that.

The main problem is that Shirotani's father declares he wants a mother figure for his son and then... he chooses a high school girl, who could be Shiro's sister, but not his mother -__- (I won't even comment on that abuse of power). He's just a hypocrite.
Maybe it's just me, but being able to brag about your parent's beauty or young age is not that important.

    Anoni Grrl August 18, 2015 2:45 pm

Maybe--but the father knew the girl was underage and his student. This makes him a bad teacher and parent. Besides, clearly he didn't do much in the way of caring who was with his son.

In the story they have a sudden onset of OCD caused by a traumatic event. In real life, it probably has biological as well as emotional components. A descent parent would notice the behavior we all saw in the story.

    I Thot You Was a Toad August 18, 2015 6:10 pm

I think that what we are starting to see—as I suspect Kurose has already seen—is that Shirotani has self-diagnosed and identified himself with the mysophobia disorder, and his diagnosis isn't completely accurate. His OCD behaviour is symptomatic of someone with mysophobia, but it masks a different and larger dissociative problem with sexual guilt and shaming triggers. Bipolar, probably.

I think you may be onto something. Personally, I tend to think both OCD and mood disorders have a biological basis, though they can be triggered by stressful events. This story tends to be old school Freud, and it involves a child not being able to make sense of events or his body's drives, so he pushes it into his subconscious and it is expressed as mysophobia.

    I_Read August 19, 2015 2:56 am

Take into consideration that the father did not know of the high school girls intentions, and that it probably wasn't serious.
In all honesty, the father perhaps assumed the girl was kind, and never saw her two faced character or goals.
So him picking her as a replacement mother, or even considering it, wouldn't be completely out of the question, since to him, she's not who she seems.
But I doubt he'd choose her. He just seems to sate her as much she does him.

I want another chapter but... It's so messed up. I feel sorry for the ukes man...

I_Read August 13, 2015 10:09 pm

Damn, that was really ominous... Now I'm fidgety because I feel an important death is coming.

    Lyn August 14, 2015 12:42 am

Agreed, I'm getting chills as what's to come in the next few chapters...

    Miwa August 14, 2015 5:32 am

I was thinking the same and I was thinking it'll be Armin. He renewed his promise with Eren and Levi overheard it. I bet Armin is going to bite it and Levi saves him using the titan serum. Armin's character arc is mostly about his insecurity of not being strong enough to help his friends. I bet it'll help when he becomes a titan. That's my theory, anyway.

    I_Read August 14, 2015 8:25 am

I don't want to be 'that person', but we can't ignore characters like Levi too. He's an important character, yes, but his story has been told. We know of his birth, upbringing, and when/how he entered the service. This story is about Eren, and instead it's become about Levi.
Who's to say that all this face time isn't a way to get rid of Levi in order to focus on Eren?
Though that would be a big leap, and a huge test for Isayama and the series.

I think Levi is safe for now. He has the titan serum stuff after all, and is going to end up having to save the life of someone else with it (or maybe himself, but I don't think so since he's already the best fighter; titan powers would be overkill and a waste). I think it's more likely he'll be choosing between two dying people in the coming chapters (Armin seems highly likely to be one of them) to give the power to. Also, Levi is a fan favourite and I'm pretty sure the author wouldn't want to chance losing readers by killing him off.

I might be confused as to how the serum works, but I don't think it's that simple. I think you have to have some relation to the mentally aware, shifting, Titans for the serum to work. Otherwise, the serum won't work. If it worked on just anyone, it would lose its purpose.
Remember that Eren's father is a shifter as well.
The only two families capable of containing memory (not able to wipe) are the Reiss and Ackerman family.
So I think the only people in Levi's squad who can use it are Eren, Mikasa, Christa, and Levi himself.
There could be a mix in the blood line somewhere (where a Reiss got with an Ackerman), which would explain the Ackerman's ability and duty to protect the Royal family with more strength than over 1000 soldier each Ackerman.

And who knows, maybe Gresha and the Ackermans are more closely related than we know.

It was mentioned in a chapter a few months back that Kenny had a sister who ended up working as a prostitute but then got pregnant.
So yes, that corpse was his dead sister. And yes, Levi is his nephew, and yes, this means your OTP sank as fast as mine because Levi is related to Mikasa.

I still hold hope even though I know that Mikasa and Levi are definitely cousins as far as it was explained on the manga, but still tho no one can deny how fitting they look together!!

I didn't think I'd become invested at first, but I finished the series in less than a week. Such a good short manga. Serious, dark, angst, but atm and comical at times too.
Please read!
