Me, post ch 52: Ugh, Nakyum doesn't even like Seungho like that. Seungho? More like Seung-HOE. Seungho is trying to hurt Nakyum, but it's not going to work
Okay, my high is over (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
Congrats to Seungho I guess for getting one step closer to realizing/accepting his feelings. Even though it took Min provoking him to get this far. But what about Nakyum? Nakyum is very much the outsider in his own love tree. Jihwa, Min, and assorted fuckbuddies like Seungho, Seungho likes Nakyum, and Nakyum likes Jung Inhun. Jung Inhun likes no one but himself. Seungho still has a long way to go before he can win over Nakyum...
It’s not like Nakyum even likes Seungho like that. He was deeply hurt by Jung In Hun (who he still loves) and is trauma bonded to Seungho. If anything, Seungho shutting out Nakyum like that is only going to make Nakyum question why he’s still being kept around. Nakyum right now is feeling unmoored and being used for sex (and his art) by Seungho was like his anchor. It gave him purpose. If Nakyum loses that... He’ll probably go back to drinking alcohol to cope. I’m not too sure, I don’t know where the author wants to go with this ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ He might get abducted, but he’s already been abducted once, what’s one more time? Maybe he’ll land himself in a better situation.
Or perhaps better said, this is ♫ a bad romance ♫ As this genre is unfortunately wont to do. In the extra, even the author Byeonduck said Seungho and Nakyum can be happy together "in their own way". Which just means to me that there won't be any heartfelt confessions, true affection, or a blissful life shared together in the end. If you're hoping or holding out for any of that, you are not going to find it here. (I'll be pleasantly surprised if I'm proved wrong of course, but I'm absolutely not betting on it )
Anyway. It looks to me that Seungho has been chasing the memory of his and Nakyum's first time together. He's been trying to elicit the same feelings and reactions from Nakyum, but to no avail since Nakyum at the time thought he was with Jung In Hun, and is becoming more and more frustrated. Seungho won't admit to himself that he feels some sort of way for Nakyum. It's not love, maybe not even like. It's more... He was initially curious about Nakyum's feelings toward Jung In Hun, then he was contemptuous, and now he is resentful. He seems to want the attention and fidelity that Nakyum demonstrates towards Jung In Hun, to be directed towards him. On some level, Seunho seems to have realized this about himself, but now that Nakyum has closed his heart due to Jung In Hun's scornful words, Seungho is trying to regroup by falling back on his old habits. If Seungho wants sex, he can have that with his old fuckbuddies -- is what he seems to be telling himself. Mr. Pot-Stirrer (that one guy, what even is his name?) is very perceptive and excels at manipulating people to do what he wants. He's not as outwardly upset as Jihwa is about Nakyum, but he definitely wants Nakyum out of the picture too. Though, he also wouldn't be averse to having a taste of Nakyum either to figure out what is so enticing about him that Seungho dropped all his fuckbuddies for him. He subtly cornered Seungho by bringing to attention his fixation on Nakyum. Either Seungho admits Nakyum is in some way important to him or he invites Nakyum into their orgy to demonstrate that Nakyum is just another fling. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Nakyum in the orgy, but seeing as there's an assassination plot against him in the works, who knows if he'll make it there in the first place.
And that is why I scoff at Meng Yao/Jin Guanyao apologists. It's not that Meng Yao is capable of /either/ great good or great evil, he's capable of doing /both/ at the same time. Which was why I think it was so hard for Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue, who both see things as black and white, to see Meng Yao for who he really is. Lan Xichen couldn't accept that Meng Yao did evil things for evil reasons when he was so good to him (because for him only evil people do evil things and Meng Yao is definitely a good person) and Nie Mingjue was angry he ever put his trust in a evil person (not considering that Meng Yao may have performed good acts for /both/ good and evil reasons). Meng Yao just wants to get ahead no matter what it takes. The moment he was rejected by his father and kicked down the stairs in humiliation, his goals were to obtain power and get revenge. No one is safe from his wrath, not even his wife and child... (⊙…⊙ ) tl;dr Lan Xichen sees Meng Yao as a good person. Nie Mingjue sees an evil person. Black and white perspective. Meng Yao is simply a person who commits acts to get ahead, keep his power, and get revenge, no matter if they are "good" or "evil".
Ahh I definitely do not like that he told her, right off the bat, to put aside their past lives like "water under the bridge" because they're different people now ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ How blasé can you get? He definitely doesn't know she died young of heartbreak, thinking he left her for a noble woman because of his sudden elevation in status.
There is definitely a misunderstanding about what really happened. They obviously still have feelings for each other. But if they get together, I want him to suffer before then. Just a little bit. (▰˘◡˘▰) I want her to be so OP he's amazed by her. And then, I want him to be jealous of any attention she receives from other men, just so he could have a taste of the betrayal she must have felt thinking he had left her for someone else.
I think Kaid and Shirley should not end up together, even though that is probably the end goal for this story. Their relationship was based on a lie, though her feelings for him were true. He might have loved or cared for her, but he ultimately chose his mission over her. I don't think he was wrong for doing that, but he did wrong her. I don't think she was wrong either for ensuring her execution. She lived her entire life in ignorance of her family's corruption. She never thought to look deeper into her family's affairs and no one ever tried to tell her. Even if she lived, she would have less than nothing. No lover, no friends or family, no title or wealth -- only heartbreak and the scorn and pity of her former subjects.
Shirley is living her life in atonement for what her family did to their people. But what she needs is someone to tell her/convince that her new life now is for her to enjoy. She's no longer who she was, that person died years ago. She is someone else now and can live her life however she wants. It would be better for her to move somewhere far, far away and have a fresh start.
I feel for Kaid. But he made his choices and he has to move on.
People like to place all the blame on Jieun, but I think that's a really big cop out on the author's part. Like, ofc blame the other girl! (And you know what, let's make her so unlikable and the ultimate villain in this new timeline just to reinforce how good and different Ruve is now!). That way we can forget everything Ruve did and hope he and Tia get a happily ever after. If any of these two girls had any common sense (or like a neutral party who is looking out for them), they would throw the whole man away. You can say he is different, but he only notices Tia NOW because she is suffering from his actions that he himself inflicted in another timeline. She has PTSD and recoils from him in the earlier chapters, but we're supposed to think it's okay if they end up together because they love each other? No, any relationship they could have is irreversibly doomed because Tia has memories from her past life that shape who she is in this new timeline.
First timeline and beginning of second timeline, the Duke was close to the Prince, literally pretending to be friendly to him since everyone was distant towards Ruve. Fed him poison about Tia, so Ruve would come to hate Tia. It was only in second timeline when Tia first got hurt and Ruve went to see her they have their fallout. And Ruve was no longer in the Duke's grasp. He continued his second plan to use Jieun as a puppet and actually poison Ruve so he turn to a tyrant emperor and eliminate him when he become the grandfather of the crown prince.
...Or blame some never-before-mentioned villain mastermind to deflect blame from Ruve. The duke may have influenced Ruve into hating Aristia, but Ruve was the one who chose to hurt her (and then execute her). But I guess Ruve is not completely at fault. Aristia has an unhealthy love for a man who hates her. She said she wouldn't fall for him again if she were reborn, and when she spoke with Vita, it was suggested her feelings for Ruve were not her own. (Like she was only meant to be a placeholder for Jieun? Whatever that means) In any case, Aristia said she was going to fight her fate and so she was granted the name Pioneer. But ending up Ruve would basically be her replacing Jieun this time around, and that isn't much better than what happened in the original timeline #-.-)
I don't like that the prince gets an out and both women have to suffer (one in each timeline). But since we're reading from a particular point of view, we don't want this FL to suffer. Honestly, we need one more reincarnation where all the shitty men get killed and the women get to live happily without them.
At least give us some extras or even an epilogue...
