I think people were misinterpreting the OG story... It was a BL because Edwin was obsessed with Michael ... Obsessed coz Michael shows a bit of kindness and lift up Edwin's cursed... It is not real love coz it doesn't have to be Michael... If anyone else did it, then Edwin's obsession will direct to that person which is the current plot... Now it will be a challenge to the author to make Edwin grow out of his obsession and actually truly fall in love ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
I think people are forgetting that bi, pan, and demisexual people exist. The original novel isn't stated to have said that Edwin is strictly mlm, same with Michael. The only thing we got from the novel is that Edwin's obsession towards Michael was due to Michael helping him out. Now that Alice (Elizabeth) took on that role, it's not surprising that Edwin ended up falling for her? I agree with your last comment, I don't know how they're going to turn Edwin's obsessiveness into a healthier kind of love.
I'm bisexual myself but I don't turn 'straight' or 'gay' because I'm in relationship with either I'm still bi. Honestly it's also a problem with a lot of BL and GL novels bi erasure but I still don't like this novel because it gives me conversion therapy vibes like it doesn't feel like he's bi but that he just became straight.
I hope I was able articulate my thoughts well.
They are cutting lots of important pieces that is in the novel... I hope Ron is part of the group this time and we just did not have screentime this time. And for some reason, unlike the normal elves.... I imagined from the novel that the dark elves were a bit bigger than normal... Or at least Tasha would be a bit more taller, Cale described the dark elves and the jungle people to be at the same size but just a bit smaller than whipper kingdom people... Why my guts telling me that the artist haven't read far on the novel (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
Guys .. this is YAOI. And whether you like it or not .. there will be sex scenes... consented or not... it's freaking OMEGAVERSE. If you like healthy relationships, go find one... the thing is, they don't sell... you actually have to be legitly bold to release yaoi genre and slap your pseudonym there and hope no one will find who you are... most authors and artists will love to give heartwarming stories... but look at what stories at the top .... killing stalking, jinx, bj max, even love is an illusion is not all healthy plotline... if you will complain about the integrity of this characters, you are also stabbing the authors who created them... shame on you for looking for yaoi tag and reading up to this point...
Yaoi = rape? So you mean to tell me that you will justify rape in the name of yaoi? Y’all cant fucking excuse racism, misogyny, homophobia, hate against any sort of religion in a fiction but as soon as it’s rape you all will excuse ?? Look, there’s no problem if somebody wants to read this kind of stuff with rape in it, but justifying it under the name, or tag of yaoi is stupid. Yaoi never meant rape. In the first place, it meant a homo erotic relationship between males. But nowadays authors have basically reduced the meaning of yaoi to rape, a person can want to read a something under the tag of yaoi without there being any rape. This is not a disrespect to authors. This is just disrespect to the whole genre itself because people have reduced the meaning of it to rape only.
They can correct me if I’m wrong, but I assume that’s the point the person that created the thread was making. That there are all sorts of different type of material out there to enjoy, and no one is forced to read something they do not like reading. Some individuals will come on this website (weekly) and demonize readers and criticize Arthur’s for creating work that’s not preferred by their preferences, as if it’s the only option in this genre to read. Respectfully, If someone don’t like reading something than stop reading it, or discontinue reading it and don’t come on manga websites demonizing people each week for being genuine fans of their work.
Yaoi for the most part means there will be smut scenes in it. SMUT = EXPLICIT content. Now, how the smut scenes are portrayed, depends on the secondary genre or the plot will have. Is it wholesome or angsty one? There are plenty of yaoi out there that does not include ANY violence or rape. The OP said the stories that SELL are the ones with heavier themes, including rape. It was pretty clear. All they are saying, if you can't handle the plot then read somewhere else and not complain about it. Even more so that Omegaverse includes a plot where humans are not in control of their sexual instincts. If to you that's a way to justify rape, then that's on you, but the plot has been around because it fits a certain fetish or fantasy, just like any eccentric, weird, disgusting straight porn out there.
Also what I think is that the yaoi genre is mostly read by women and for women sex and relationships and stuff is much different from men.
The gay scene in reality has a lot of non consensual or dubious consensual sex because its MEN and MEN are more instinct driven instead of emotional.
That still doesnt make rape okay but it just happens a lot.
I agree that yaoi == rape and have seen plenty of yaoi without non-con.
I don't really see why this comment is criticized, except perhaps the comments contesting this critique on authors. That is also why I hope consensual stories have a lot of success so authors can feel like it is not a risk to write those. Also it didn't seem to me that yaoi was less non-con in the past I rather think the opposite.
Personally the issue I can see with the abondance of rape in stories is the habit of "expecting the best" out of rapists (whereas in real life toxic partners are something to get away from, people who do not turn green even if they claim so, they may control their victims and sometimes even murder them (feminicide)) that is why maybe some people could, like me, be worried about the unconscious representations people get from reading about characters like Taeju. Especially if they know victims themselves. That is why personally I often feel inconfortable in the comments here.
For me as long as we name things with lucidity I'm fine.
Also I don't think people who like reading toxic stories and toxic scenes need to endorse those especially if they don't negate that toxicity, people have kinks and all. So I hope no one feels forced to argue about characters to negate that toxicity (Perso I read 'cause I'm too emotionally invested)

I think these people should just go for shonen-ai tag, there are plenty. If they want these tag to flourished then they should endorsed that tag... just don't expect Yaoi to be all rainbows because it doesn't. 8/10 yaoi mangas always start non‐con. There is a reason why this tag is banned publicly. It is so easy to check the first chapters and drop the webtoon or manga if you can't read it. I for example skip stalking, student/teacher, slavery and dumb uke stories... i don't like those stories but I don't go to someone's comment and yell, it's rape, it's wrong, where is your morals for reading this? Seriously just move on... it ain't that hard.
wouldn't that mean then loosing out on story that do have only consensual sex? (since indeed those would be under the yaoi or bara tag not shounen ai)
also, of course I don't read all comments, but when did someone attack people's morals for reading this? is that what comments say?
Most that I read that are criticising are rather about topics such as why some feel uncomfortable about qualifying TJ of a "green flag", or whether readers can express strong negative impressions on the story such as disgust, stuff like that
With all honesty, Yaoi is not something I will ever recommend to someone. I enjoy reading Yaoi for it's explicit nature... after all life is not nice at all. It is not like Hentai or smut, you can see all the problems a relationship could have. You can character growth ... it is sad that there are people that says this is wrong, that is wrong, why is it like this? Man, the story is not even over, but the criticism is all over the place... let the author cook, and judge the plot after it's done... you don't judge a painting when the artist lay out the the first 3 layers
If people are seeing improvement on a characters personality, we call that growth... but people will keep bringing "well that doesn't justify anything". Nothing can be justified, what's done is done... what people that sinned can do is grow and have maturity... no one is perfect, people make mistakes, and sometimes you need to meet that one person to make you realize you are a horrible person and from here on out, you can make changes... but damn... people don't appreciate redemption yet wants the world to be a better place ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
The main point here is "What is consensual?"
How can we say it's dubious?
It's all about the fxcking situation how MC come up with that decision. So I think everything is consensual, in a sense.
ML's a jerk because that's his characterization but he's turning over a new leaf now.
Well most gangster in that industry wants their money back in anyway possible. Cause that's what lending is.
Yaoi is art. I get those people who is irk by the thought or even by the mention, I'm like that before, duh. But now, what is love? It's Yaoi!!!
Using reincarnation and isekai to make a lolicon story...
