They ARE being dumb. But they are also children. They weren’t even 18 when they died. They had never lived without their family and were not independent adults. They should have a better thinking ability and speaking ability than what is being shown. But they’re still smarter than normal 8 year olds or whatever at least. They’re definitely smarter and more well rounded than someone who no one even bothered to teach or talk to.
We are getting the omniscient view as readers. They’ve only seen bits and pieces and they’ve only been taught to distrust people.
They’ve only know the emperor and princes for a month or something. I do think it’s ridiculous to trust the green haired kid. I do think they are making incorrect decisions. But they’ve also gone through a lot and, I’m gonna say it again, they only know so much. What they know is that the Emperor is sending them back to that freaking castle where they have nothing but bad memories.
They know that these people have been completely ignoring their existence, and even though they justified it by saying it was to protect them or that they thought they were already dead, it’s not that easy to forgive.
They know that the prince is protecting them and that he has been kind to them, but they have no real reason to trust him beyond that.
They shouldn’t trust the green haired kid. That is completely dumb. But I would also be way more likely to trust someone who was in a similar situation to me than some people that has lived a life almost completely opposite to mine. The other royals were living a well fed and relatively positive life, albeit an imperfect one.
To just say this again, I agree that they are not making wise decisions. I hate seeing them make these decisions.
If y’all are having a hard time enjoying the story with their current decisions, which I totally understand, I encourage you to take a break for a little while and come back when there are more chapters. I’m still hoping the story will take a turn for the better. I’m honestly not hating it, but I’m so saddened when I see these misunderstandings and misplaced trust.
