Does this moron really think it's okay to lead someone on in that way?!?! Funny thing is- is that he's displaying a sociopathic trait of dissonance where he believes that his actions from a societal belief are loving and right when in actuality it's HELLA FUCKING HARMFUL AN INCONSIDERATE IF THE OTHER PARTY FINDS OUT. He would have very well would've married her to make her happy and his family happy and took his true feelings to the grave. OR they would've divorce because our FL is very emotionally intuitive so she would've eventually noticed that his feelings weren't as strong as hers.
