In a world with mobile phones what she did just is shitty. It almost like she didn't know where he lived. You cannot say you REALLY, REALLY, LOVE someone, then at any hint you think you are being dumped you just immediately get another person. I don't know what the author's aim was but that just gave me red flags with her.

She lives in the middle of the dark forest. She have to fly to get out at least. If the back story is any indication, the commoner would probably just avoid/wary about the witches but they're still in need of their expertise. They're not inherently evil but also not a safe entity. And the place is a rural area far from any bigwigs nonsense.
