I'm surprised he didn't manage to catch Shin there. I hope he skips the nobles and chooses Dame Gareth instead, I think if she's willing the three of them could make for a nicely stable relationship, and she's certainly capable of protecting herself.
I feel like it's going to take more than killing Bram and even using the Book to fix the mess that's been made of Yokohama at this point. I really hope the author has this very planned out, because I would hate to see a deux ex machina come into play.
I know the whole story has a ton of unreal stuff going on, and I can generally buy into the premise (because if you're unwilling to do that you shouldn't read fiction), but no way would Bastian have survived that.
