At one Q&A chapter, I remembered that the mangaka said that they planned to put a reason behind the mask like ugly or jagged teeth or lip piercing (like Megumi's) but they choose to not put anything.
I read that part when I was skimming earlier and it just said it was the author's initial design for him. nothing was mentioned as a reason, maybe it's just for style? or it'll be revealed later on
