The flashbacks shows her weakness and hopefully soon her character development of not being a pushover anymore. I dislike when they just let themselves get trampled on. Anyways. Why would she even accept that jewelry box. I would've taken it to please the merchant and drop it off some random place. I wouldn't take anything from strangers especially if I didn't purchase it even if it's as a thanks. Being from modern era she should've been wary but it's all for the plot.
