OiDawson asked a question

Now I will ask a very personal question. English is not my native language and I am not in a good enough state of mind to bother with making proper sentences, so I will use direct translation. If you do not understand, please tell me.

A very close friend of mine's brother passed away and I can't figure out how to approach her about this. Our homes are about a half hour drive away but I feel like it's a little early for me to be there physically because I don't know the circumstances of her family members and my friend has friends who are there to support her right now.

I could only talk to her briefly via text, and that was when she told me about her brother's death. I told her I could come right away, but she said she felt my presence and there was no need. A few hours later, I couldn't help but write again, and she replied a day later and said it was good that I existed, that she loved me very much and didn't need me to come, and that she didn't even remember when she sent me those first messages. Then she said she would call me soon and talk to me.

I know she is in a very bad situation right now and this is the first time I have experienced something like this and I can't figure out how to approach her. I don't think she needs any words of comfort right now, I just want to listen to her and let her feel my support. I have no idea how to continue this situation while talking on the phone. Should I ask her something and help her open up? Should I say nothing? Should I try to distract her? Should I honestly say that I don't know what to do but that I want to help her?

I really don't want to make things worse for her, she's not someone who would misunderstand me, but I really can't be sure about anything right now. The only reason I haven't physically gone to her is because I can't figure out if she wants it or not because I don't want to be a burden when her family is there and I know my friend isn't alone.

Has anyone been in a situation like this before? How did you act? If anyone has an idea, please help me, I would be very happy. Thank you for your time
