See now everything is making sense. How this all occurred.
Ophelia was raised to believe that she can't be loved and is merely there to give her father a nice cushy life through a political marriage. When she went to Orpheus, her self confidence was at a huge low, I mean she apologized instead of thanking him, which emphasises her core issues. Actually talking about this, maybe thank you wasn't right either. She essentially thinks that he gave up his love for her as his father's dying wish and instead reassuring her that he does love her and that the wish was an opportunity, he tells her to thank him?
Then there's the servants who hated Ophelia from day one, and make Ophelia think that she's in the wrong, that she's holding back her beloved's happiness. I mean who do they think they are, they're just servants, they have no right for such an opinion and have no power, why are they all so entitled that they think they deserve a say in this. On another note, the servants belief might've further influenced Ophelia. I mean think about it this way, the servants who are around Orpheus all day believe he loves Diana. They aren't strangers, they are if anything, experts regrading everything that goes on in that mansion, yet despite this they believe that Orpheus loves Diana despite the fact that he does not.
Now more on Orpheus, firstly, that scene that Ophelia saw with the hug in the garden, that scene made ME believe that Orpheus loves Diana and I know he doesn't, he looks so elated looking at her, and he was so elated whenever Ophelia would talk about Diana. And they seem to spend so much time together, they're always together, taking leisurely strolls, enjoying life. He never confronts Ophelia, he's always prancing around their misunderstanding like its a sleeping bear or something. It's not just Ophelia's trauma but his behaviour, and dare I say lack of interest? I mean the butler observed Ophelia and worked out she was acting, yet he who loves her so much can't? Yet this sharp butler still believes that Orpheus loves Diana, he's very smart and good at observing people but even he believes that Orpheus loves Diana for a bit, seems that he think that Orpheus loves Ophelia now. Everyone seems to believe that Diana is the true lady of the house, and Orpheus acts like it as well, being more intimate and loving with Diana. On top of all this he denies everything so strongly that it's seems like he's lying. Oh and let's not start on how he stops Diana from clearing up the misunderstanding on the stairs like wtf, and he comes off cold while doing it.
Now Diana, she's not that much at fault, but at the same time, she knows Ophelia harbours a misunderstanding and all she does is act like an apologetic little girl whenever she (not) sees Ophelia, yet when Ophelia isn't there she doesn't refrain from acting intimate at all, it's like she can't think or something. I mean if I was Diana I would go out of my way to tell Ophelia that I don't love Orpheus (and spoiler: I would tell her that I love the butler because btw she does) and stop Orpheus from stopping me and refrain from acting so intimate. Like goddam it's like she can't think too.
Now despite all this, I think that Ophelia's at fault too for refusing to communicate and acting out so much, but in the end I can't because the people around her amplify her beliefs and low self esteem and never help heal her trauma.
I heard that he worked out that she was acting but unlike the butler he didnt know why she was doing this to him and thinks that she hates him. Even tho the truth is she is making him hate her so that he would get together with Diana. He didnt have the courage to confront her for fear that she would ask for divorce because he thinks that she doesnt love him and is doing this to faster get out of the marriage. And he felt like he doesnt have anything to prove to her that shes the one he loves. She herself said that even if he says he loves her, she wouldnt believe him. They got into this stalemate situation where the duke thought that if he let her do what she wants and not confront her, she would continue to stay and maybe change her mind. and thus both of them ran around in circles even tho they both fucking love each other. smh.
