I understand what you mean but always compare to yuki make things really difficult for ueno... it like yuki is a wall that ue cannot surpassed, like u said he can improve but it breaks my heart every time sensei torture him i want him to find his own place in this manga
I totally see it in a different way (not that Ue still isn't suffering). Yuki was such a strong presence and important friend to Mafuyu, Hiiragi, and the other one whose name I forget, and I think Hiiragi and the other friend bringing in Ue to show that they trust him and support him with Mafuyu. They're also helping Ue learn about Mafuyu as Yuki was such a big part of his life. I do think that Ue is somewhat being used to get closure, but he seems to be on board with it even though it isn't easy
