He may be naive but I'm sure he will develop as a character. If you want to criticise, criticise the author for using him as a plot device and giving him a brain concussion. Tbh, it's not hard to drive using one hand. Lots of people do it regularly even though they have two working hands. He probably drives an automatic instead of stick shift. When he needs to change gears he would be able to press on the break and remove his hand from the steering wheel to shift gears.
It's also easy since it's his right hand that works; he can still flick his indicator lights easily.
It would be difficult if he could only use his left hand though.
