Is there an extra or bit of story missing? I remember a scene where Toyo disappears, and it turns out he went mountaineering. I have a panel in my head of him returning in the doorway with all of his gear; he had gone to that place that was a mecca for mountaineers.

I prefer Hirano to Kaigura more than Sasaki to Miyano.

Always check the genre and tags.
If it involves a ghost romance, check the comments.
If it involves time travel to save someone from dying, check the comments.

If you follow these simple rules, you’ll sidestep a good deal of things you don’t wanna experience on this site.

    Misaqi February 25, 2021 1:42 pm

haha i checked the comments because of the low ratings

Because Lezhin is pretty shit at giving trigger warnings, I’m going to give sensitive people a heads up for the next couple chapters:

TW: suicide

can u tell me who tried to commit suicide? or if they actually die?

    blue February 10, 2021 12:14 am

    Yeah.

It’s a character in a flashback, not any of the mc. I believe he does die.

I’m lowkey sick of these mangas that are BL but also a ‘deep-dive into the 3-D modeling/ or sake-making/ or agricultural/ or pastry/ or publishing/ or whatever industry.’ At this point, it feels like a sub-genre of slice-of-life, and they are just so tedious. Even if I like the characters or plot, they are just drowned out by explanation and exposition about the ins-and-outs of that industry.

I understand what you say, I’m not saying this manga is bad but I’ve also noticed it on a lot of BL, it feels like some sort of filler like I don’t want a complex explanation of how they do their work I just want to see their relationship.

I understand that it's important to get the story you came for....but as a working professional and being a story which is a work place romance...I feel you will be given details of their work. Otherwise the reader might lose the track of what is happening in the story.
Getting acquainted with little details of other professions makes it interesting. Many times it helps making a convo in real life....also it gives me the insight of how much work the people actually put into their jobs. Like take sekaiichi hastukoi that story looks into the details of editors and production houses of mangas and magazines, and it's a decent manga.
Probably an information overload is not desired but it can't be that we make a series like Grey's anatomy where they talk about everything other than the profession to the point that they hardly seen working? A series like that looks too shallow, almost like they want them to just say these characters have the same work place and no other detail about that.

I’ve read plenty of mangas where you get a sense of the characters’ work and it isn’t overshadowed by the industry they work in. Because those mangakas know that character development, romance, and plot should be more interesting than the details of their work.

The thing about these deep-dive mangas is that you can tell that the mangaka did a lot of research into the specific industry and then crammed all that research into a one-shot. It feels as superficial as a middle school paper, and the setting or plot is not strengthened by all that informational dredge. Sekaichi Hastukoi is different because 1) it pretty much started this sub-genre 15 years ago. 2) the mangaka actually is a part of that industry so she can give some insight and a humorous & exaggerated perspective. 3) it takes place over many, many volumes.

I’m not saying I hate all mangas that do this. I’m just saying that it is a cheap trend in BL that is getting tired fast.

Ahh...no no I understand your perspective....I agree there are places where the authors pile up all the info about the things they have researched....and it's not pleasant to read...a short manga such as this one doesn't really need that much info...but sometimes I use it as a info source...like rather than googling something I am reading manga about it...but that's just me...
I feel a strong point that you have mentioned is the period of time over which the info Is given out...if the manga is big it will have small nuggets of info over a period of time and it would be considerable info but it doesn't burden the reader...

You really don’t find many manga like this anymore. Incredibly beautiful.

blue January 23, 2021 12:47 pm

I’m not going to lie, this is not the manga I would’ve picked up for first time translating. Low-key poetic and comedic and chock full of random cultural traditions—it’s a beautiful manga, but a literal nightmare for English translation.

LMAOO I KNOW i would stare at the screen because i understood the jokes but had no clue where to even start trying to make it make sense in english

Such an odd and abrupt ending.... feels like there is room for an entire other volume, but I doubt we’ll get that. Wonder what loose ends the extra can tie together.
