Shen Sheng
I swear, Chinese shounen ai really strikes an arrow straight into your heart.. I really enjoyed this one. It started off with the typical "Come see me after class" trope, but it developed into an actual meaningful relationship between the most unlikely of people. And of course, being a fan of stuck-up tsunderes, the teacher definitely piqued my fancy. I admire how the author introduced a few characters, giving room to flesh out their backstory and personality overall. So often do authors throw in too many characters, only to not give them any depth. This story can really invoke emotions in people, with its humor, drama, and how they portray loss and abandonment. Despite its bittersweet ending, it was enjoyable.
Unripened Expression
What an utter mess. To start off, I loved the first 20 chapters or so, delving into the characters' backstories, their struggles and flaws, you know, the things that make them actual human beings. I mean it started off with a typical plot: normal highschooler Jaewon likes class president Karam. Ok, simple enough. He befriends Junseo, a closeted homosexual with a tragic backstory, someone that Jaewon can relate to on a personal level. Huh, this pairing sounds more reasonable, they actually connect emotionally, comforting one another; being there for one another.. now Yoonsung. He's introduced as a confused elementary schooler who breaks the heart of Jaewon for not understanding the concept of gay love. Now why is Jaewon so pressed by this? I mean hell, he was like 7 years old, of course he's gonna call two guys together "weird". He had never even thought it was possible! So what happens when these 3 men end up falling for one guy? A confusing, rushed nightmare, all of them fighting for the love of a man who's too blinded by a meaningless infatuation with the guy who already rejected him once before! And Karam, whose personality is equivalent to that of a fucking pebble, ends up liking him back, despite showing no hints of homosexuality or romantic feelings in general? What the fuck? Like many, many other readers have mentioned already, the focus of the story was Junseo and Jaewon. It's only logical to assume that they would fall for each other in the end. Instead we get this weird back and forth of trying to make the other jealous, and it's just so.. cringe. Disappointing.
Cocoon of the Heart
Well this was a wild ride. The only way I can explain this is that it was tragic from beginning to end. I can't even begin to imagine what it must feel like to go through the things Jeff and Terrence did. I am just wholly glad that they didn't separate at the end of it all. Absolutely heartwarming.
Nevermore
Wow. Just wow. If a yaoi hadn't blown me away before, this one definitely did. The use of the Nevermore motif was beautifully executed, the characters- beautiful as well. The hints of the overarching plot just made me want to read more, and the payoff with plot twists being thrown at you at mach speed is worth every chapter. Just fucking well done.
Inner Beauty
I'm surprised at the turnout of this story. It went from the usual rich guy x ordinary dude to a supernatural journey of finding one's other half. I loved the mysticality the author brought in. That combined with the ex girlfriend plotting revenge and the teacher trying to rip them apart, only for them to overcome all of that, that is what makes this story great. Good story.
