So idk about you guys but even if the ML did date her friend’s bf even though she didn’t, it’s just a what if, the fault always lies in the cheater and not the third party. Of course, the third party is involved and has some fault but people tend to think their ex bf/gf to be the one less at fault, which isn’t true at all. It's the property or money the bride have to give to the husband. That money can serve as a gift to in-laws or insurance for the bride in case she leaves the husband or someone of the bride's family dies.
basically it’s like a tradition where the wife’s family has to pay the groom’s family money for marrying their daughter. i think it was used as a settlement in the past when women didn’t own property and stuff so the husband at least got some stuff from the family when they got married. it’s still pretty common today in some asian countries.
