I’ve seen a lot of different views on this in comment sections so I just decided to pose this question to the whole site. Personally, I think it’s okay to write rape into a story and read a manga about it as long as the author is not romanticizing it and is showing how harmful/damaging it can be in order to not normalize it. Stories that belittle rape and romanticize it personally disgust me. I don’t know why people enjoy it and go out of their way to read stories like that especially if they dislike rape happening irl. Why would you suddenly drop your morals just because it’s a fictional story?? I completely understand that fiction should be separated from real life, but I don’t understand why someone would willingly want to read/write a story that belittles and romanticizes rape? It doesn’t really make sense to me, but that’s just my opinion and I would like to hear yours.
i'd say let the authors do what they want ig. i may not necessarily like reading about it myself, but i'm not going to condemn an author for including that trope in a story if that's what they wanted to do. if you don't like mangas that have romanticized rape, just don't read them. the only reason there are so many is bc that's what sells unfortunately.
Because it's their fantasy, you can't control fantasies.
Did you know that a lot of women are thinking about being rapped when they masturbate ? But I don't think any of those women want to be really rapped.
It's exactly the same here. They don't try to be hypocrite and don't draw think they're fantasying about just because it's immoral and may be judged as "disgusting". They chose to assumed their fantasies to feel good, it's way better than being ashamed to themselves when they are doing nothing wrong.

Authors can write whatever they want of course, but I do think they still should be criticized for romanticizing rape mainly because it’s become such a normalized thing in the BL (specifically yaoi) community. And that’s such a harmful thing manly because gay men don’t already have much good representation and writing rape into a yaoi story just doesn’t help them at all.

I'm sorry, how couldn't have you heard about that? I don't now where you live, but this information is not a secret anymore. Just quick search on the web will bring you answers.

Thank you for sharing this study with me I find it quite interesting. It did help me understand why people themselves might fantasize about being assaulted. I’m still a little unsure about why people would want to read stories about others being assaulted, then falling in love with their rapist. I’m guessing it’s because they like to see that character as themselves or read it to feel less guilty for having those kinds of thoughts. It’s a little odd to me, but at the end of the day as long as they aren’t hurting ppl then I guess its fine.

rape has been romanticized in every genre tbfh, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.

Yes, readers tend to identify themselves to the main character, that's why in yaois ukes look generally like women :/ I'm also not found of yaoi where characters fall in love with their rapper because it's kinda illogical I think? But well, even if sometimes it piss me off, I guess other readers may enjoy the story so well ¯_( ° ʖ ° )_/¯ Fortunately there is enough different kind of mangas for everyone to find what they like, I just avoid reading what may not please me.
a 50/50 for me, but at the end of the day it'll just end up as just a 'fiction'. well, I think as long as they know that this isn't something to be desired in real life, then I think all is good. anw just to share, the thing is when I want to read yaoi, I just want all of em fluffs and romance. still for me, the repeated storylines of meet > rape > interact > love is just too much to handle, that's why I just don't read/ignore them..

Just for example:

And you can find a lot A LOT of that. I didn't know that some people weren't aware of that fact.
I don’t recall there being rape in 50 shades of grey? Just BDSM play.
