Yeah i asked the same question to someone here as well. They told me that Penelope and Vinter are being quite close. But for proving that Penelope worth to be one of his people, he tested Penelope(i'm not sure but i think at this point he risked her life). Penelope felt betrayed because she thought they trusted each other. I guess they make up afterwards. But those event must have happened because to make the main male lead(Callisto) the best soulmate Vinter should have some mistakes as well. He was too perfect to be a second male lead and that event as my point of view prevented the second male lead syndrome.

[SPOILER] Vinter (silver haired dude) is the second male lead. The reason he was so on guard around her was for the sake of the children. If he's exposed as a wizard, the kids will be in danger with no one to protect them. He doesn't treat penelope like shit and his actions are with good intentions. Penelope pretty much stays cautious around him until the very end even after he does absolutely nothing to her. He confesses his love for her in this super angsty scene (that made me cry bc i'm an emotional little bitch) after yvonne poisons her and penelope drinks it knowing it's poison. Penelope wanted to die and if that failed she planned to use the poison as an excuse to leave the duchy but Vinter was like absolutely shaken that she nearly died (and he broke down after realizing she wanted to). He gave her this necklace that changes colors around poison so he knew that she drank it knowing it was poisoned but when he saw her unconscious body, his hands were trembling as he gave her the antidote (my poor bb). Callisto was also very shaken up but he had to leave to help his troops (in reality he left due to the schemes of eclise and yvonne. btw eclise is the secondary antagonist). Back to the angsty scene, Vinter starts begging her to use him so that she won't get hurt. He tells her that he'll do anything so long as she doesn't put herself in danger. He literally says "take advantage of me. I'll fix it for you"

(idk why the rest of my reply isn't showing up) She starts teasing him and lists off these things saying would you do this for me. "What if you have to expose yourself as a wizard?" "I've already prepared to do so" "What if I ask you to kill Yvonne" "I would ask the assassin's guild...and i'll turn myself in" (pls he's so cute...i'm a vinter simp lol). Vinter was the reset button. After normal mode ended, yvonne killed everyone but vinter managed to survive. He sacrificed himself to turn back time to before penelope was killed bc he knew she was the only one who could stop yvonne. He also apologized for being "such a fool" (his words) and being brainwashed. Each time penelope died, he was the one who brought her back by sacrificing himself. Penelope was killed so much that her soul shattered and a fragment of that soul reincarnated on earth. That is our FL. that fragment was isekai'd back into the game. So technically our FL was the real penelope all along but she didn't have her memories. Before the final fight, vinter gets into a fight with yvonne and his office (idk what to call it) gets destroyed (he destroyed it out to try to stop yvonne from getting the piece of the mirror of truth). P goes to check and see's all the rubble and everything in ruins. She begins to panic and starts rummaging through the rubble to try to find Vinter. She finds him in the secret hideout and sees that he's on fire and she tries to put it out but can't. It's because of his sacrifice to bring her back if she dies. He stay sin the magic circle and look at this convo between them. "What if I lose the pieces and Yvonne kills me" "Don't worry my lady. I'm here to turn back time" "What if I don't come back forever after turning back time?" "Then I'll repeat it forever. Think of it as a punishment for those who hurt you." "If I succeed, will you be able to escape" "Well...I don't know" "I'll try hard" (no i don't ship them but i do love him very much). After she wins against yvonne, she goes to rescue vinter from the mirror of truth. She meets the real yvonne who died a long time ago and it's really heart breaking scene. She's been watching the day she died over and over and refused to reincarnate bc she wanted to see her brothers. P convinces her to reincarnate and yvonne is so precious. This made me cry but this is them talking while she's rescusing him. "I'm so happy...If i say that I want this to last forever, you'd think it's ludicrous" *penelope realizing he still has feelings for her* "Marquis....I like the Crown Prince" *sad vinter pauses* "...I see...Now, his highness is by your side to make you laugh" "[p speaking] I trust you now so...." Vinter's eyes were tearing up in this convo and it's the classic second male lead doing the pitiful "be happy" thing. When the exit the mirror they hold hands so that they won't be separated and when they cross over, callisto sees them holding hands and has vinter arrested....he also tried to tell P to leave vinter bc Callisto was jealous (she had to remind him that vinter sacrificed himself and saved them). Anyways vinter is hesitant to trust penelope at first and tests her but he's a good person and a classic sweet-heart second male lead. Her and Vinter are friends in the end and she finally trusts him.

Omg my respect towards author is rising all the time!!! Plot is amazing and yeah i can understand you, I really love Vinter as well and i don't ship him with anybody. I'm just happy that he doesn't receive a bad ending!

I appreciate the author and the whole thing with him testing her bc it's hard having these perfect second male lead's. I adore vinter and he's my favorite out of all of them but I like that he's human. I like that he has trust issues bc it makes sense given his situation but he's super kind hearted and just so loveable. The author killed it with this honestly!! Kinda unrelated but second leads who you love but don't ship...hurt on another level. Like you don't ship them but you love them and want them to be happy so it's hard seeing them sad. I left out this part bc I was tired of typing but there was this part of the conversation where vinter said (this was after yvonne reincarnated and he noticed penelope was crying) even though she never cried, she always looked sad but now she looked relieved. Penelope thought to herself about how accurate that was. He also tried to offer her a handkerchief but he didn't have one on him. Anyways he's a very kind person and I love him v much. If his ending was that of a him just being sad....i would've been so upset bc i'm tired of those types of endings for the sweet second male lead.

You're totallly right. When i read the things you wrote i was shocked because i thought he's going to die in that magic circle. But fortunately he didn't, if he'd die i'd drop manhwa. He's my favorite character from the beggining and yeah i can't stand loveable second male lead's suffer at the end of the manhwas. Other people are being like oh a good ending awesome, but i'm feeling empty bc of that... Anyways thank you very much for those cute spoilers!

I would've done the same bc I've dropped so many series that I enjoyed and shipped the ML with the FL but the SML just suffers. I don't want to see a good person just suffer for no reason. I was scared he'd die too but I'm so glad that he's fine and that him and Penelope are friends (callisto still acts jealous though lmao). I honestly don't care about the main characters like if my fav dies i'm just going to complain about that and cry....and yw <33
