It was Hotae (the kid who have a crush on Donghee and even learnt Spanish just to win Donghee's heart) who called, saying that the cafe owner (Donghee) has gone missing.
When donghee came home, there was already a pair of shoes at his front door. My guess is that the shoes belong to Donghee's boyfriend who went AWOL for some time because he was pissed off Donghee don't want to lend him any money no more.
Well the mf probably went back to their shared house after Donghee had called him to break up, and probably keeping Donghee in a confinement.
So, because he's being confined. He didn't show up at his café. People got worried after some time and assume he went missing.
