While I sympathize wit bro cuz loopin sounds like literal hell, that doesn’t excuse all those rapey vibes. The voices

Idek I think if I was stuck in an infinite loop of watching the person I eventually fell in love with dying gruesome deaths and then committing suicide to restart said loop I'd probably be way worse off than Youngwon. At least he's got a shred of humanity left in him that allows him to retain that love he feels for Hohyun.

In a more realistic sense no one would be able to retain their sanity to any degree if this actually happened to them. We'd like to believe we wouldn't somehow lose our humanity, but that's just a fantastical delusion our brains come up with to cope with the actual reality.

the first commenter put it really well and i agree. its not that his actions are okay but considering all his circumstances? the whole point of making him hurt the guy he loves is to show how hopeless and dire the situation is. the guy can’t even kill himself in peace, and has to relive the same hell hundreds of times no matter if his lover “hates” him. he also has to watch his lover die horrific and brutal deaths out of his control, keeping ALL the memories while hohyun is rewarded with pure ignorance every time

the rape and shitty behavior isn’t a fault of him choosing to be this way under normal conditions… imo his twisted mortality plays a role in how complex his character is because he somehow wants to save, torment, punish, and protect hohyun all at once. every action and word is a reminder that hohyun holds their fate in his hands and i can’t find myself getting upset over that resentment…

You adding that second part helps round out my argument as well!!

Like, he has to mentally and physically deal with the backlash this infinite loop has put him through while Hohyun gets to hard reset each time. Atp Youngwon can't tell if they are even going to ever succeed 'cause despite his best efforts and newfound knowledge, Hohyun consistently finds a way to get himself killed-- and each time he dies Youngwon has to commit suicide to start the loop over.

His emotions and mental state are muddled. He loves Hohyun dearly, but he struggles with his feelings of frustration, inadequacy, hatred and fear all at the same time. These feelings are only amplified by the fact that he loves Hohyun, too, but is seemingly powerless to save him.

He really is very tragic and I find it hard to fault him for the fucked up shit he does. Like I said, I would have been way worse off than him if I was put in his shoes. I don't know what I would have done, but it would probably be far less humane.
