Why are the adults/families around the main cast either nonexistent or either just assholes.(That explains the trauma and fighting though)

On a side note, I do wish they produce an anime for this. Considering the fantasy aspect, I feel that it would make for a great anime adaptation. And the plot twists?? I mean, some were predictable but others would really make you go, “whoa.”
