Before her stone hibernation, MC usually does public works because she is considered the low end of the national mage. She even failed her exams a few times because she's weak. Only that her mana control is superb. She was ordered to join the monster extermination team because the monster is supposedly weak that even she can handle. Not those highly dangerous creatures like dragons and such, because she's not a front-line mage. That's why all she can do is to divert the creature's attention away from others.
Is she weak and useless? Absolutely. But honestly being able to turn into stone is OP enough for a weak mage like her. She can become immortal or even time travel to the future if she wants to.
