...... I am angry. Very angry. Here I am, quietly simping for the poor overworked boy, in my own little corner. Wishing he got more "screen time".
And then THIS?! Don't get me wrong, it's good writing! And I normally pride myself that I can predict the plot twist before they happen, so when one takes me by surprise the author needs applauded.
But whhhhyyyyyyy T^T I told myself I was going to stop loving the villains and murder hobos!

I'm glad it ended instead of just being dropped. I think what makes people so upset is that it's an ok story being told in an ok way with ok art when it has such strong potential. There is way too much focus on the mc that character development and world building suffers greatly. This could have hit so much deeper.
Like when the FL cried to Brat #2 about wanting to feed the slave women. Sure, that shows how kind she is and how she has learned to manipulate her brother a bit. That scene was nothing special though. Anything could have shown that. Infact many things do before and after. We even have a repeat of "Brotherman" freeing slaves. Not because it is right but because his sister wants in.
Imagine this: What would have hit deeper was after feeding the slaves the FL encounters the slave that was pregnant, but instead of being grateful she despises the FL. For one day of food, that saved her and her babies life, trained for even worse treatment after the FL has left, the owner feeling humiliated took it out of the slaves. She gave birth to a girl that would be neglected, and sold off into slavery as well. She curses the FL that it would have been better for her and her child to have died that day then to be looked down on by the rich girl who someone managed to trick the men around her. It could have been an eye opener to the FL at just how careful she needs to be, because her actions effect not just her but all those she encounters. It could also be what taught the FL to see past tomorrow. She's kinda narrow sighted and would be great character development as she learns to plan a bit better. It also shows us the reader a bit more of the world. There is too much looking at the FL repeated thoughts as content than showing the world.
I have questions! Like, we know there are movies in this world. What is the media like? There is no romance, romantic comedy, or any care for women. So, is there only action films? What do those look like? Are women allowed to act? Are they paid or are they slaves bought for acting and just replaced as needed? Or are women not allowed on screen at all, afraid that the appearance of women would offend? Or music? Do they find a women's voice disturbing and so music is only for men? Dancing?
And you can't expect me to believe it is SO shocking for a man to show kindness to any women or care. Maybe in a royal family, but in day to day life? It doesn't matter what the law or common practice is, I'm sure it would be more common for a boy to love his mother and wife. Maybe not say it out loud, but if you were more on the poor side and you only have one wife and you are sleeping with this women who serves you and raises you kids, your gonna start to have kindness towards her. It's basic psychology. Humans naturally rely on those around them. Publicly it could still be bad and there are assholes in the world, but the idea of having a women that's a little more special than the rest would not be a new concept.
I could rant forever. In the end the whole this is mediocre and is wasted potential but entertaining enough to have been worth a read through. Not worth reading a second time though. It's captivating enough to make you want to know the end so you hang around, but stupid enough that you're not happy about it.

My only complaint about this story is that our sweet little girl is not calling the FL mom yet

I can see wanting it to not move too fast, but by no means is it realistic. Even a shy kid will just blurt out what's on their mind. The day they got engaged, I asked my mom's fiance if I could call him dad. We barely new each other. But I liked him and he was going to marry my mom, so that would make him my dad now. It would make more sense if this little girl thought "I like her. She's kind, beautiful, smart, and married to my dad, so that makes her my mom now"

To be honest. I can understand why he is upset. He has no idea his wife is being poisoned. All he knows is that it is impossible for him to be the father. At a week moment when he just needs his wife to be there for him she, as far as he can logic, openly admits to an affair and is having another man's child. And why should he believe her if she claims it's only his? It CAN'T be his.

I think he doesn't know how to care properly. When they first got married he showed his affection the only way he knows how, by sending her lots of gifts. As far as he knows, she "returned" them. She didn't care for his affection. Bitter feelings began to grow. He worked hard so they she could have money and live a life she was accustomed too, but she only got upset at him. As far as he knows they have a new, good doctor. Why would he think that the loving people who took him in and call him son would be THAT terrible of people. Silver tongues work well on a soft heart. But they encourage that the way to show affection is through money.
I agree he's been horrible and I'm upset with him. I also see where, once you understand, he's not quite the villain he's made out to be. He is trying, he's starting to understand her and change. But secrets are hard to share with someone you don't know well. He doesn't want to loose her and she's already trying to divorce him. It's scary to think what she might do when told they can't have kids.

ya know. Many birds mate for life. More common happening in parrots but I've heard of it happening with hawks too who form that bond with their human. My aunts bird thinks that my aunt is her mate. When a bird is close with a human they will see that human as their mate and not like other birds. Seeing as he spends so much time with a female hawk that didn't have a mate yet, it shouldn't be surprising if she was just a normal hawk to bond to him like a mate. In the humans eyes her behavior shouldn't be weird.
I don't get what all these idiots are on about. This is flipping hilarious! And you know anytime you start out with a jerk ML you know he's actually going to have some depth and story to him with a real relationship to come. Unlike most of these stories where the overly devoted, perfectly whipped ML shows up and proceeds to speak like a broken record.
I mean who can hate on a good old enemies to loves story?!
