Hello! I’m currently in the process of producing a yaoi series. I was wondering if anyone would tell me what they like to see in long-term stories (plot, character traits, etc. ) Thank you!ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

Having conflict/misunderstanding drives the plot. I understand that and I don't even mind having the over the top/totally unrealistic ones.
But for the love of everything animated why can't the characters own up to it after the issue is resolved. I am so over authors resolving conflicts and then showing that under the rug. Acknowledgement of their faults and a simple sorry can go a long way. There is often attempt of showing growth, but without this first step.

So that is sth I would like to see more of.
Also more of sarcastic, deadpan characters that are not in the position of power. This kind of humour is among few things us broke(en) people have going for us.

Just an idea, but I love the long lasting plots, where the main couple starts to slowly fall in love, the open minded types! A healthy round character is fulfilling.

I like ones with like a girl who's in love with them seme but she can't cave them cause they're gay and so she tries to like get revenge on the uke and then the seme saves him. Also what would the Yaoi be called ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Hi I've written a couple stories in my life so here is some advice (⁀ᗢ⁀)

    - conflict is important for a story, especially if it makes sense (don't add unnecessary, annoying small conflicts that don't matter to the story itself. it's not fun to read tbh. the conflict needs to ultimately further the story & plot)

    - the main character needs to have motivation, quirks & flaws... for relatability. character flaws can be categorised as minor, major, or fatal. It's all up for you to decide

Thank you! I agree. I want to show character development. I want the characters to make mistakes, and then live up to them. Learning is real, and I like relating to characters!

I really like this idea too. I’m having trouble plotting where to advance the relationships while keeping the reader engaged. I’ve written a few plots but they lack that magic touch. You know?

Loooool! This comment is funny because that’s how I originally plotted my first two stories. To be specific, and ugly boy is turned down by a girl. The ugly boy uses the help of her male friend to become her type. Then both the characters start to develop feelings for the once ugly boy. All of the attention makes his life too confusing and it’s great overall but I’m just not sure if it can hold interest long enough. Ofc the boy would t be with the girl though. He grows to understand himself and know what he wants.

I’ve also written some romance pieces and agree with your points. Despite this, that’s where I’m stuck at. For some possible plots the plot doesn’t help the character development. For others, the focus isn’t on the romance enough. The main characters flaws are there, and I like my endings, but the path feels forced. I’m hoping that hearing what people like to see will inspire a different plot line.

Thanks for the tip. I hate a story that feels like it’s dragging. I try to remember that every panel and sentence should value in moving the plot forward.

Also also, I’ve written a few plot lines. Some titles for different stories are: Oceans Bloom, The Ugly Duckling, The Overseer, The Void, Top Agent, etc. I’ve written many, but chosen none.

From the replys here, it seems like you have a good sense of direction when it comes to your story. I would feel be interested in reading/watching them.
Best of luck, don't charge too much for your comics when you become famous. Remember us here (⌒▽⌒)

Yeah, I've jotted scripts in the past, and for some stories I have the first few chapters scripted by panel. Since the script is so time consuming, i'm holding off until I know I have a well written plot. Dialogue is such an essential element of story telling. I'm going to ask some friends to recite the script so I can check if it feels realistic.

Looool! I'm aiming for Lez, but I know if my work is good then it will appear here. It's a great resource for artist writing comics too. Analyzing other work and checking format is a big part of becoming a better artist. I just don't know what to say lol! I won't forget!!!
