maybe a diff guy can make tattoo guy be less anxious which turns him into a raging abusive guy (not saying it's the mc's fault) but he just needs to focus on someone else who doesn't make him all domestic abuse-y and manipulative

He doesn’t need another guy to help him. He needs a restraining order against him, some harsh discipline, and therapy. It might be a fantasy, but it’s sill supposed to be realistic. No one in their right mind should be shipping a dude with his abuser. You obviously don’t know how abusive relationships work. You don’t make someone more or less abusive. They’re either an abuser or not. Another man won’t change that, and he clearly can’t handle being in a relationship so he shouldn’t be. I’m hoping you’re just like 12 years old, and don’t know much about relationships and how they work. Because the alternative is that you’re a grown ass adult (most likely a straight woman) who’s into watching and reading about abusive relationships. Which is absolutely disgusting. Just because it’s “not real” doesn’t justify the implications that has on your moral character.
