A lil fun question! This is for all manga genres. Who's your favorite mangaka? What works do you recommend?
My favorite mangaka would be Yoneda Kou (yaoi) and Kyuugou (shounen ai). Though I have a lot of other favorite mangakas besides those two, it's just that their works always leave an impact in some way. The works I would recommend are the ones in my fav list:

My favorite mangaka is (Naono bohra )
I love the art the uke's don't look feminine but not quite bara The story-lines are interesting and funny i'm a sucker for a funny smut'c sweet story especially when there is a strong man with a weakness their my favorite if you ever see one and I don't have it in my list please recommend it to me I will love it.
I recommend everything on my list's i find them interesting it's depends on my mood I have them in categories so it will be easy to find them in case I would like to read them again.
My favorite mangakas are
1)Naoki Urasawa (Seinen): Monster and 20th century boys are is best work and I suggest Billy Bat also were he co-write and draw the story. He's a master of suspense and great characterization!
2)CLAMP (All genre lol): Tokyo Babylon and X are amazing, but I also suggest RG Veda and XXXHolic and Clover and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and... ;) They are unique for me, they make manga like nobody else!
3)Hiromu Arakawa (Shounen): Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver spoon are is only work but both are great, even if in different type.
hoho the mangaka who draw cool sexy seme and uke and have a nice plot that would make you want to re read so many times
Pretty much everything from
Yoneda Kou
Natsume Isaku
Suzuki Tsuta in the yaoi/shounen ai category.
Yumeka Sumomo too; great art.
In the seinen type (not yaoi), definitely Inoue Takehiko.
If I had to recommend only 1 or 2 piece for each:
"Doushitemo Furetakunai" by Yoneda Kou
"Devil's Honey" by Natsume Isaku
"Merry Checker" and "Work in" by Suzuki Tsuta
"Nanairo Sekai" by Yumeka Sumomo
"Vagabond" by Inoue Takehiko
I'm a girl who never really experienced the pleasures of shoujo manga because I'm stuck reading yaoi. No complaint, just wanna know what else is out there. So recommend your top ten shoujo. Just NO slow or weak female main characters please.
A few good shoujo mangas are Skip Beat (ongoing and hilarious!), Ao Haru Ride (very cute and romances also the anime came out this summer) and Oresama Teacher (more shounen than shoujo in my opinion) but If you enjoy yaoi then try gender bender shoujo mangas such as Love in the Mask (it's Manhwa so it's read like an English comic, also it's very dramatic), 1/2 prince (if you like SAO or .Hack you'll like this), Ai Wo Utau Yori Ore Ni Oborero! (Very romancy with crossdressing fanservice) and After School Nightmare (very psychological, a good read left me very satisfied when I finished it the plot twist was awe inspiring) I don't have an account but I'm around so if you ever want more suggestions just ask I'm sure I or someone else could help you again.
I'll suggest one mangaka. Read all her works. They dont go the way you expect shoujo to. Ikeyamada go

Moe kare, suki desu suzki-kun, and uwasa no midori-kun, and kobayashi ga kawai sugite tsurai are the best ones
Weeell... if you haven't experienced a good shoujo manga, then I'd recomend some of my favorits:
- Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi): Gender bender, darn funny and some yaoi touch for the fujoshis.
- Dear Mine: Very sensible and adorable. The female lead is kinda slow, but she'll conquer you for the fluffiness.
- Dengeki Daisy: Strong characters and an actual deep, good plot.
- Kanata Kara (From far away): Supernatural shoujo. Similar to Inuyasha, but I enjoy the kinda... realistic take on foreign land travels.
- Red River (Anatolia Story): Strong female lead. Bound to be frustrated with the male, but turns out this is a darn good shoujo.
- Don't cry girl (Yamashita Tomoko): Forget traditional shoujos. Crackfest by shounen-ai author :3
This is a fun shoujo whose main character is a fudanshi. It's a hilarious and interesting read. The mangaka typically creates boylove manga so it's a great way to break into shoujo.
