I really wanna know how these authors come up with the names for the characters of these Renaissance era themed novels. 15% the name will be real names from different European countries (like Perez, Gallahan, Lombardi for example) but the other 85% is just.....and then the pronounciation be kicking my ass ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ
And here I am looking up "unique baby names and meanings" when naming a character then end up with naming one of the characters "Zayne" anyway
I mean to be fair I would struggle picking accurate Joseon era Korean names. Its kind of hard to know what are cool historical names in other cultures. I saw one comic where they translated one of the modern male leads names to Jedediah and was immediately like O.O AMISH?!
AMISH LOLOLOL!!!! Fair enough but western names don't change by era as much they do in the east (as far as know). Commonly used names from the Renaissance era are still commonly used today, it's the reason why you have parents spending weeks searching for unique baby names. Maybe the authors aren't that well aware of it and just create these extravagant names instead
This is true. Honestly someone just needs to give them a list of biblical names. Those have been used forever and are safe for basically every era and every country in Europe. You can have a Christopher or Christina in 1200 or 2021. Barnabas is a little out of fashion but I think it would still work for a rich kid in modern times.
That's a really great idea and you can find LONG lists of biblical names online in seconds anywhere. And even if the author still wants the character to have a unique name they can still find one out of a list of biblical names, I don't hear the name Jahmai as often as I hear Jacob
