This is a piece set in the past. It was very common in European countries up until the 1900’s (even into the 1900’s in some) for nobles to marry their cousins. So it’s not a far off concept. And I don’t think she’s delusional, crazy, or a bitch. I think her reasoning is off, but everyone has a different way of getting out of certain situations. She acted that way to give the ML a reason to divorce her since she is under the impression that he only married her since it was his grandfather’s(?) last wish. She think if she acts in this way that he will be free of this chain of duty that she believes he is held by.
As fas as I undersand, marrying family members was actually illegal and not supported by the Church (at least first cousins) in many Western European countries (don’t know about the others). In fact, having a familial tie was one of the only reasons people could divorce (even if the family relation went back generations). So yes and no — and again, it’s made explicit multiple times that she’s more of a sister. So both of those factors added, it was clearly not just the ML « being a player » or « not clearly setting the line » (which, again, he and others did) and the FL completely overreacted / became delusional.
And sure, she believes she’s doing right, I don’t mean to say that she’s a bad person. I’m saying she’s not that smart (I mean, that plan is really far fetched, and clearly it wasn’t working) and she’s beyond annoying. And stop blaming the ML when clearly he is not at fault in any way whatsoever (unlike in series such as « The duchess in the attic », where the husband is a complete fucking idiot and the « cousin / friend / whatever » is a manipulative bitch).
