I think a lot of people defending abusive possessive male leads should watch pop culture detective on YouTube. He makes 20 minutes videos where he breaks down these type of tropes, and explains why they’re wrong, immoral, harmful and moralised. Maybe you can brush it off and see it as an other innocent story, but the way we normalize toxic predators as just being “crazy in love” causes a lot of harm in day to day society. Please give it a try, I promise it’s worthwhile.

All of you saying she shouldn’t kill Mielle, are you all will fully forgetting that she assassinated her mom and framed her for it? If someone murdered your mom and made you executed for it I’m sure you’d have murder thoughts too~

I am SO confused about ch24 did he r-word her? I mean even if he didn’t... that’s pretty rapey man... why can’t these ML understand consent... I’ll just pretend it’s never happened and keep reading cause lmao wtf

Authors need to get it through their skull that emperors who kill mercilessly and just act like the ML: absolute @sses, are not good emperors. I understand they want the « iron hand » feel to them; but the behaviour of this emperor is beyond stupid. He’s just a child with a crown. Why kill hundreds of YOUR soldiers just to take a look at a bigger authoritative figure than you that you’ll eventually see anyways? This would just put most people against you. He’s so dumb it breaks my brain, he’s got no logic, I don’t care if she was his lover in the past. In real life there would be constant riots and no one would listen to him because people would believe the king is crazy, and kills whether you’re right or wrong. He would’ve been assassinated a long time ago. If authors want an idea of a cruel but technically competent leader, they should read « the Prince » by Machiavelli, it’s a short read and pretty explicit.
Also if that’s the path you’re going for do not try to make us like him. I’m supposed to like and feel bad for someone who killed plenty of people just doing their job because he was horny? Man I know a lot of you might be young but jc, recognise bad writing when you see it. This manhwa is a hot mess I know I’m going to get downvoted for it but lol I gotta get this off my chest. The story is all over the place, the characters have no depth and are incoherent regarding their own personalities, the ML is a painful jerk who I would do anything to throw over a bridge and the FL is as tiring and stupid as those « I’m married to a billionaire ceo! » manhua’s female leads. They tried to make her look smart but no. Such a shame because the art + the original plot looked interesting.

If you’re curious about a good manhwa depicting well power dynamics with cruel leaders, kind leaders and corrupted leaders please read « to be you even just for a day ». If you’re just cruel and merciless people won’t provoke you but they won’t respect you and follow you unless ordered. If you’re needlessly kind people might respect you but they will easily walk over you and take over some of your power. If you’re carefully corrupted, people won’t notice and won’t act accordingly, leaving you room for power and greed, at the expense of your people and being discovered. The difficulty of being a leader is balancing cruelty and kindness, greed and humbleness... seriously, I wished the author could read critics of her manhwa and improve it, it has so much potential that is ruined the more chapters go by （/TДT)/

I actually think that we were right, this is going to turn into a Psyche + Medea vs Prince. Psyche keeps repeating about how much she admires Medea, and the last raw makes me believe that they’re going to side up against him. I think I’ll stop reading for a few weeks and come back when it’ll have made some serious progress because the cliffhangers are unhealthy for my heart.

I just began reading chapter 1 but the plot really reminds of Lan Chi. It’s one of the very few manhuas I genuinely enjoy for the good story telling. It’s about a girl who gets adopted into a family for looking like her adoptive parents’ deceased daughter. And her brothers mistreat her because of this. As time flies they get closer etc... and though there are funny/cute/light hearted moments the story is still overall quite dark. I think this is going to be similar except the story will be much lighter. Which I appreciate.

Someone mentioned the promise that Emma made. What do you think it is? We know that I&/€:):& (idk how to write his name lmao) takes away the thing you want the most. Like the first promise, where the human who just wanted to go home, was stuck as a mediator between the human and demon world. And the prideful demons, who wanted the best food to be superior to all, couldn’t, as i$}^%}* made them give their very best meat to him. Since Emma wants her and her family to be safe, I think that it will be something about her not being able to stay with her family.

Like the commenter said, it’s nice to have an eastern culture representation, but what I also have to add is it’s nice the author did not white wash the characters. I’ve read manhwas and mangas that are supposed to take place in Egypt, the Middle East or a place with Arabic influence and all the main characters are always white. Or worse, the good guys are light skinned and the bad ones are dark skinned (one of my fave manga does this ╥﹏╥) This type of erasure is really the worst, how can they erase an entire people just to reuse a setting they deem cool. Anyways besides the MC (but that’s actually normal, as she didn’t grow up in the desert), they made most characters look the part, even added black ones and did not do these racist stereotypes I used to see a lot in in mangas. It’s honestly see nice to see this progress in mentalities!
