Poorly written can only be said about this story after it's revealed if or if not JJ has reasons for being messed up in the head.
If no; then it's bad writing.
If yes; then it's decent writing that's just not everybody/the majority's cup of tea.
Even if the topic in question is something you might hate, that doesn't mean the writing is automatically bad. Especially considering JJ is not supposed to be likable, so the writing did a great job so far. It only depends on the endgame now. If that gets mishandled, everything crumbles.
