I can't believe they just shat on Rococo/ Marie Antoinette style dresses AND corsets. Like, they don't even use corsets for Rococo fashion, they used stays and tightlacing was not common (only a few do it, not even all the time). And Princess Mia's dress is NOT sexy, it's childish AF.

MCs original dress was better ngl. The "modern/ elegant" style dress she wore after looks costumey and boring.

The world has magic why would it be set our world with historical accuracy?

It's not about the historical accuracy that gets me its they said that "traditional is bad" in the context of fashion. When her new clothes are boring, but considered "fashionable = modern". Most J Fantasy have awful fashion compared to K Fantasy manga.

Also, I will never not shut up when corsets are being demonized so I just had to add it there. It's become a cliche that corsets = pain, so I'm trying to point out that's not true to readers. Fight against the misinformation and all that.

I dont disagree on the concept of tradition if you want to embrace it yourself but they forced it on her and hurt her because of it.

For sure, that's true! I agree.

What I meant was that I question the author/mangaka's choice in making the message of the story that way.

Why did the author choose traditional fashion to be the trauma our MC has and the rejection of traditional fashion? Other than it's old and we don't like old things apparently? Why is there no redemption for traditional fashion? Like the MC finding corsets that fit and support the chest? Or her finding shoes that fit in the traditional style? Or in general appreciation of the traditional style?

Because from what I understand, the traditional fashion is bad because of the trauma, not that it really looks bad (except for the makeup lol) or "ugly." We only perceive it that way because the author (thru the MC) says so. We also can only say that the MCs new look is "better" because they say so, even when the art and design of the "trendy" dresses look bad/ boring. If the new style was designed better, I think I would appreciate this manga more.

Overall, the logic and execution of the story isn't very compelling, but the premise was unique.

You dropped your crown sis. You hit every point I've been feeling about this manga and more! I sometimes catch myself getting excited when I read a historical manga and the clothing is period accurate or even slightly reminiscent of it and then I catch myself like am I really gonna praise the bare minimum?! So to see the clothing immediately get shidded on I'm just like why even set your story in this time period if you want nothing to do with the clothing? I love the silhouettes of any time period clothing (especially rococo ;3; )so to see it be changed to boring draping I'm just over it.

Nothing gets me more pressed than when a fl decides to bring her modern clothing style into any time period and advance the fashion trends by 100's of years because they've demonised corsets so much, which are literally just bras. Like that can't be good for the development of the fashion industry and they always looks so out of place compared to the background ppl it makes them look goofy. I did read a manga that did it right by only captilising on the next trend they knew was coming up and making bustles.

    I'm still hoping to see bonnets one day ;3;

I thought it was very extreme when the maid told her husband that she'd face irreversible damage if she continued wearing traditional clothes. Like?? wearing a bra that wasn't made to fit you will mess your chest up, wearing shoes that don't fit will do that to your feet but the actual clothes aren't the problem. I just- corsets were made to fit the exact body they were being given to and the illusion of tight lacing comes from bustle pads to hold the weight of the skirts which in turn makes the hips look bigger creating the image of an Itty bitty waist. No tightlacing at all! The demonization of the clothing is just so out of pocket when you realize the author chose to write in this time period.

Frfr. Nothing nopes me out of any media than seeing female characters being in pain wearing corsets. It's practically a pet peeve or ick to me at this point. If the story was better, I wouldn't be so disappointed. Like I can accept bad fashion/art as long as the story is good, but in this case? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

I would like to recommend if you haven't read it yet, Emma Bangai Hen or Emma is a masterpiece of Late Victorian fashion in manga form, especially when the mangaka's artstyle progresses as the story goes on. Rarely ever read something as beautiful as Emma's author, Mori Kaoru, draws on manga.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Glad to see a fellow historical fashion enjoyer.

The real criminal here is the author who can't leave her masterpiece well enough alone. This used to be so amazing, the way Sooha and Taesoo were. Now, author wants an angst dumpster fire instead of a manhwa that brings perspective to what healthy relationships are. Author loves the villain or at the very least wants to redeem her somewhat. Don't even lie to me, you can see it happening too. She won't get her comeuppance, not as much as Taesoo and Sooha's suffering should warrant her. Don't start about how Taesoo and Sooha could still work it out. Author clearly wants them to feel hell, this might not even be rock bottom for them. It could only get worse from here. I hate what's happening, because this is what author wants to happen for the sake of angst and drama.
This should be tagged under Biggest Let Down or Disappointing Author or Gives You Anxiety/Depression.
Srsly, each new chapter is somehow more rage inducing than the last. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
Sorry for the rant, see you guys next week for another one.

No, they're criminal because of saying the same story again and give a greedy bitch to have nice of everything and make the poor Taesoo suffer for no fault of himself and that's cruel.

I am this close to dropping this series. What is happening to this plot. It's turning into an angst blender thrown into a firepit. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧

I might be nitpicking, but d*mn some of the eyes drawn in panels are wonky, and once I started to notice one, I couldn't help but notice ALL the eyes and I might be the only one giggling madly cos of it. I just can't, it's hilarious.

I don't know about japan but you need to send official government ids to apply for anything from jobs to school, right??? Like you need birth certificates or even a school id or drivers license, all of which would probably indicate you're a female? Or are they accepting applicants off the streets? Because this is probably how yakuza recruits members, w/o ids. In any case, what she's doing should be illegal. But lol fiction, i guess.

    San May 19, 2019 4:22 am

Agree about the IDs identification. I think this situation sounds a lot like the plot where the main MC wears glasses, and NO one could realize who he/she is.
Even a damn no Frame glasses (╯°Д °)╯╧╧

hazard_ak May 9, 2019 7:49 pm

If Taesoo and Sooha don't make up and Taesoo doesn't learn to feel less insecure before Hwang and Sooha's parents find out about each other's identities. Just imagine Sooha's mom talking about an "arranged marriage" with the rich Hwang and force them into a relationship...

Taesoo would break.

What really bugs me (other than dub-con) is the fact that Torako and Torao seem like different people. We didn't get to know Torao that much before he turned into Torako and subsequently lost every brain cell and any fighting instinct he had. If Torao was such a delinquent/fighter then he would have fought much harder from being raped. Torako is just a typical clueless/loudmouth pushover shoujo heroine and Torao was supposed to be this stubborn yankee student that just really wants to defeat his rival, but apparently not???? A change in gender does not equal a change in character. Unless he's been harboring a crush and weak-willed all this time, I'm not buying it.

Kiri has some steel balls to hit on an omega while being an omega himself. You don't see that sort of thing in other omegaverse mangas.
