Jeonjapa is here OMG SHE'S SO PRETTYY

I think this makes perfect sense on a world with VR as realistic as this. Games and actually sports re a bit different in terms of skills needed, but athletes who manage to get to the Olympics are a different breed of perseverance and motivation. Losing the ability you dedicated your life to, I could see how they'd get a head start in VR since they work out so much in real life too

I’m questioning the author redundant choice, not the characters ability (or disability) :p
It’s just like like how parents / brothers / sisters dies way to often in kids movies (at least 2,5 more often than in other types of movies), isn’t it too much ?
I still think it’s a lot that two main players are people suffering from the same pain, from the same circumstances.
I mean, the fact that they are geniuses in sports is all good. The fact that you can get wounded is obviously a bigger risk with competition BUT the fact that both of them seemed to have suffered from an accident, while being top athletes, doesn’t that makes a lot of coincidence??
They might even be athletes practicing the same sport, but it’s not like they were in a bus accident together, so come on ?

??? A person with a neurological disability that affects their hand and someone with probably a spinal cord injury that makes them unable to walk, is the same type of pain and the same type of disability???? Omg a novel with 2 people who have disabilities is too many disabilities??? The fact that 2 very difficult people from very different backgrounds, both managed to have a life altering injury at some random point in their 30 some years of life as a professional athlete (which is a high risk job), is too much of a coincidence??? Wtf? Also have you never heard of a foil character. In books it's common to have a foil enemy, someone who is similar as the protagonist, but for one reason or another is on the opposite side of the protagonist. We also never showed that this girl was an archer, we only know she is a well named streamer. Have you never met a disabled person in your life? Do you think they're rare? I'm confused...

Well, i’m the one confused there : both are athletes who lost the ability to perform due to an accident, and became geniuses at games
You see difference, where i see same.
I never questioned the disability part, but the redundant trope : seriously what are the odd that both top players would be disabled athlete, with improbable sync rate?
i would not mind if any random characters being disabled, if there were a dozen more.
I do happen to know plenty people with disabilities, from friends to family.
Most of them are inspiring to me : they didn’t let their disability be their limitation. And that goes from blindness, to having lost both leg at war. Despite their physical limitations, they have (or had) a wonderful and fulfilling life, Handicap was never what defines them, they are much bigger than than.
Now, i also know about how terrible it is too live with a polyhandicaped kid or severe autistic children. I know how impossible it is too have a life for these kids, and how broken their families became.
So disability is not something i consider a subject you play with, or to treat lightly as a mere background
Just like the death of a family member should not be used as easily as it is in kids movies

That's fair. Sorry if I was a bit accusatory. I do think that they've already started to explain, or at least set up, why athletes have better sync rates, but we also just met the girl, so I think it'll be explained later. I don't think it's random, and I think there's many people in this books universe that are using VR to do things they can't because of their disabilities. From the vibes I've gotten so far, it seems like the author is spending time building up the hardship that comes with disability, and if they decide to drop it and not explore deeper, I will be angry too. Because then it'll feel like the disability was a plot point and not a meaningful discussion or representation. The plots still relatively early, I could see many more people with disabilities coming up as MC becomes more popular and more involved in the VR community, as well as a proper explanation for why athletes or people with a disability have a higher sync rate. I think it's too early to judge right but, but I do feel like there's been some setup already towards a positive direction on this topic.
NOOOOOO DON'T GOOOOO
