Lots were lost in chapter compared to novel. He wasn't really dumb, but actually quite loyal and he was emotional seeing his good friend (unlike the other thugs in his clan) who was also raised with him in a dog clan who values loyalty very highly. Also, the novel emphasized how torn and guilty he was for staying with Chiyoung and thinks about it a lot, while the maga toned the emotional context really low. Both are still enjoyable!
