He saw no problem in moving his GF closer, when FL asked him, so he can take care of his father and GF, amd since FL can easily visit, it means he could have as well. So, there was absolutely 0 reasons to abandon his family, and put them (and himself) in mortal danger. If not for his braindead actions, his sister wouldn't be involved with the prince and Letio, and his whole family wouldn't be one wrong move away from execution.
