so... a korean gangster... is being saved by a christian angel... but he's probably no christian AT ALL considering he probably has no idea who satan is and confused it with candy(satang). He's got a new lease on life and now he's gonna play the blame game?
I know this story is probably a guilty pleasure isekai read, but it's also lowkey dumb imo.
honestly solo leveling is kinda getting boring for me. I know SOOOO many people who give it bias because they also read the novel, but it lacks a bit of worthwhile drama. When the main character enters a fight, I already know the outcome... and usually in those instances, aside from twisting the fight and making the character lose, maybe the win comes with a great cost, like losing an eye.... a limb? someone they love dies.. etc etc.. but solo leveling hasn't really added anything to detriment the character at all...
considering all the male beauty gurus in the world atm, the "seme" doesn't scream seme, he kinda gives me a "seke" impression. (especially if he's just gonna lunge at random people.) Plot's pretty cliche with the whole "amateur gets taken under reknown and experienced older model" but I did find the self confidence spiel interesting.
i was looking for something new... picked this up and all I have to say is that this story is a love child between the unthinkable...
OnePunMan and Harry Potter... honestly its so harry potter from what I read that i'm surprised it didnt pull a bunch more cliches like Draco's "You'll hear from my FATHER!" quote. (unless i just haven't gotten there yet)
Is this a real thing that happens in Japan or is this just a fantasy world for this mangaka? Cus, my immediate impression is that fujoshis have begun to rule to world and the male reaction to fujoshi culture is to play into it... It's legitimately softcore gay for pay.
There’s also amature idol groups who goes BL related content (like King’s game or Pocky game) while also selling their merch and etc.
Also the japanese really likes doing like weird pranks like “what happens if your male friend pushes you down for real”. Some ppl don’t like fake couples, but real couples are also cute.
I don't understand the world of publishing for yaoi but I can assume the mangakas are restricted by a certain number of chapters. It's not like the webtoons that are available nowadays where the creator can go on as long as they want and make a serialized work.
Honestly wouldn't have minded more. My impression is that the story was pretty raunchy and as it stands, full of cliches, but I think if there were more chapters, there's be more affairs than just a wholesome fluff with a man that's seemingly a playboy.
I read the first chapters and after that I was already skimming cus the plot is confusing and uses typical chinese plot devices that westerners probably wont understand (like the slapstick between whoever is reincarnating him and the crappy foreign characters they introduced off the bat and the "woe is me" wife character that he has to tend to even with the main character's "woe is me" health).
Not to mention the translation doesn't do it many favors with so-so grammar. I would probably be stuck with ambiguous lines for 20 or 30 chapters before I understood how the plot would flow.
Just about half way through reading so I thought i'd give my opinion. Honestly it isn't unique with having a dour royal female lead, but compared to the version I have in mind, at least they didn't make it an issue and have the story be about how offensively prudish she looks. The story is pretty witty and I can probably thank the translation team for doing a good job, I know these kinds of works lose a bit of ambiance when the translation doesn't understand what is being said. I appreciate that the story isn't a full isekai and uses the sense of it via her dreams to create a sort of mystery.
oh and the art is pretty exquisite, not too often do I see a story where the cover art is the same throughout the story. Personally I would've liked it if they kept the same art style for the comedy relief instead of the chibi art. (having a stupefied face or a pouty face during silly moments with the same amazing art would've been better in my opinion, but I suppose the art is probably pretty taxing to maintain without some relief for the artist)
