Do any others believe that reading manga/manhwa Is giving you unrealistic relationship standards?
Recently I’ve just been thinking that when I think about what a relationship should be....or at least what I want it to be. It’s something out of something I’ve read Or seen.
Mainly 3 different areas:

PHYSICAL LOOKS -which of course is definitely unrealistic to find a man as tall, and hot as some are portrayed in these stories

THE ACTUAL LIVES/STORY: as in....I’m sick of this boring ass world where everything is not exciting anymore....I want to be transported to a different world inside a book where I am the daughter of a “evil” king but he ends up loving me....and I grow up and befriend a cute prince and we grow up together and eventually get together.....and of course the world has magic....in which I happen to posses copious amounts of mana inside me.
Or I am in a world where I can fight dragons etc.
even worlds like solo leveling.....so long as I’m the OP main character lol.

PERSONALITY -which is also drastically different. Your not going to meet your dream man to Will be cold to everyone but you. Or if your into reading manga with some bdsm scenes (or slightLy controlling partner) but you also don’t want that in real life. But reading it makes you like it a bit. (FYI:don’t worry about me. I know the difference between mental abuse in stories vs real life. And I won’t ever let anyone do that to me....I just like it in stories).
It’s even hard to find a guy you just plain loves you....and won’t betray you in some way. I’m not saying I’ll shut myself out from the world. If it happens I’ll try it.

I just think this world is very boring and every friend I have is in a shitty relationship....or no relationship at all. People let you down. And that’s ok, it’s reality. But....these stories make it seem like something better should be out there.

I just like to loose myself in tvshows and manhwa when I am able too.

Does anyone knows the sauce of the story that wnt like this? The uke and seme are childhood friends and uke likes the seme ever sinfe they were kids. The seme knows about his feelings and wished that he would stop having those feelings and the uke heard him talking about that. The uke started to being distant with the seme and went on his on way saying thank you for everything. I remember him saying "you are the one who started to be dark in a world im living" something like that. The seme didnt chase after the uke bcs he thought it was for the best. So the uke loves the seme a lot, and it was a manga a really old one. And I can’t get it out of my head, so basically the uke has been in a unrequited love with the seme since they were little. The uke watched the seme as they grew up, while the seme notices the ukes feelings, he thought that it’ll eventually pass by. The seme is bisexual so he gets with guys and girls, but then one day when the seme was talking to his friends about the uke, he said “I hope his feelings for me will be gone already, having him with me when I’m in a relationship is so stressful, I always have to pay attention to him”, and when the uke heard he ran away. Days later the seme notices that the uke has not been talking to him, so he starts a chat with the uke when he saw him. And when they were talking, the uke confessed and also said “I loved you ever since we met, you were the light to my dark world, but now I feel like you’re the one who became the dark world that I’m living in. So I wanted to thank you for all these years you were besides me, I won’t bother you anymore, I’ll let you go” Then the uke walks away, the seme didn’t chase after the uke because he thought that was for the best. But then he deeply regrets it and tried to find the uke, he kept dreaming of the ukes smile and he would always cry afterwards. He said “where are you right now, why aren’t you with me, I miss you so much I feel like dieing, I wished I could’ve spent the time you were with me better, I wished that I could go back to that moment and chase after you”Years later the seme saw the uke coming out from a hotel with a man and decides to literally stalk him, the seme was mad pissed and he got jealous (100xmax) to the point where he decided to follow the uke to his home and kidnapped him bringing him to his place and basically keeping him there.

So I’ve been trying to find this manga for awhile now. It’s buried deep within my reading list.... or my want to read list, whose to say? I can’t remember what the cover looked liked.

Anyway, it’s about two twins and the seme. The seme falls for the quiet twin and they date. But the other twin one is obsessed with his brother to the point he locks him up and even tries to stab him (or succeeds, I’m not sure) If anyone know what manga I’m talking about let me know. BL is the official name of the category. BL are works that feature the love between boys whether smut or fluff. Smut means stories with sex scenes and fluff means stories without sex scenes or implied sex scenes. The works can be straight up smut or a long story with an intricate plot; they’re all considered BL.

Here’s the part where most people get confused.

Yaoi and Shounen Ai are outdated terms. Yaoi was originally a term used in Japan to categorize doujinshi. They were basically stories that weren’t original and only contained smut. The meaning behind Yaoi is Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (ヤマなし、オチなし、意味なし?) "No climax, no point, no meaning".

Many mangakas didn’t like that and how the word described their works. BL mangakas like to refer to their works as BL.

Shounen Ai literally translates to “loving young boys” and is often viewed as a bad word in Japan. Yes on this website it means stories without smut but in reality the word itself refers to pedophilia. Some might be confused because Shotcan is also pedophilia. But both terms are considered just as bad in Japan.

I’m sure that most people want their BL works to be referred to as BL. It doesn’t matter if there’s smut or not. You can just refer it to a smutty BL or a fluffy BL.

This is pretty common in Japan. However because the west has westernized the terms so much, ppl get confused. Westerners took the terms and did whatever they wanted with it and now that it’s been popularized, many people don’t understand that the words are actually very outdated.
