First of all Edgar can read people's thoughts and can control people's mind ( brainwash them)
So basically in the original story, Alice and Aaron were the main characters, Alice met Aaron as a man called "Ed" when she was young before she went to the capital and Aaron used a magic tool that could change his appearance and that no one could remember how he looked like, so after alice arrived at the capital she met Edgar and mistook him for "Ed" because she just remembered that Ed has a black hair and get engaged, Edgar was a villain who used his only friend Duora and manipulated her and control her brain and used her for his own sake, so he ordered her to die so he would appear as a hero who killed the villainess who was planning to assasinate his fiancée Alice...
And now in this new story after she was recreated inside the novel she read in her past life as the villainess who died under Eldger's hand, so she decided to befriend him so he wouldn't kill her, when they first met he couldn't read her thoughts so he invited her to his house, the duchess and his brothers they were trying to kill him, and when Duora was a guest in the house they'll stay still and they won't try anything on him, so he put a spell on her so she would keep coming to his house so they would stay quiet and he could have some peace, and he also felt sad because she coming only because the spell and she's with him only because the spell, she's his friend only because of the spell, so he tried to break the spell by harassing her (i don't get it either maybe if she hated him the spell would break i dunno), he was trapped by the thought that if it weren't for the spell she wouldn't treat him all kindly and nicely and stay with him, and sometimes he hurt her while he was trying to protect himself from his family like that time when he gave the tea cup to the servent after she worked hard to make it for him because the servent put poison there, and now I'll tell you that the spell didn't work on her from the start for some reason just like how he couldn't read her thoughts, and she did all that cause she wanted to (she felt pity for him and she wanted to stay alive too), i think being with her in his childhood somehow changed him?? Like he's no longer the villain who kills people or uses them to reach power...
He absolutely fell in love with her but she remembered the original story that he was the real villain not "Duora" so now i think She's afraid and scared of him??!
Now he's just a kid who's been misunderstood by everyone around him even the only person he has affection toward, and she's even trying to get him executed with (her and Alice and Aaron) cause they think he's a bad guy but he's just in love with her
One last thing he said the spell works on an specific place and when he calls them with a specific name, that's why he only calls her by her family name and meets her in his house cause his afraid the magic won't work and she'll leave him.
