I'm nervous about this supposed guide that they left behind in the dungeon. I have a feeling he's still alive in there and ML would probably drop our MC immediately. I don't buy this "wow I actually care about him and won't let anyone else have him" schtick going on

I don't think so? He said he left "something" so, it might be an important item or a keepsake. Unless he treats their past guide like a thing.
