I was curious about what happened to the author and her girlfriend, so I did some digging on Chinese social media; apparently they were really serious and even met each other’s parents and got a dog together, but the author went to America to pursue her studies and ultimately decided to stay, which resulted in the break up. Her weibo hasn’t been updated since 2020 (save for a few automated birthday posts) :(
