Ive read somewhere that its common and psychological for straight people, esp women, to like yaoi. It says that its because, usually in straight romances women intinctively portrays/see themselves as the "female" in the relationship so theres limitatiins to how they view the relationship and interactions of the couple in the narrative. But in bl, theres no female, so they have freedoom to chose who they see themselves in the relationship and freedom to just see the couple as a separate narrative from their life. Hence, some people relate themselves to the top, despite being female or smth, or being close to the bottom or smth. This liberation gives the subconscious freedom to enjoy the story without having to intinctively relate to a character just because of similar sex.
Oooohh nice. To add to that, I also like reading and watching sports but it doesn't make me athletic in any way¯_(ツ)_/¯ it's kinda the same with sexuality if talking about analogies (watch sports ≠ athletic, read yaoi ≠ gay)
